Anyways, CT has impact sockets on sale this week, so if you are in need, head on over and pick some up!

Deep sockets (SAE and Metric)
One sale for $25, reg: $55

Short sockets (SAE and Metric)
On sale for $15 reg: $35

I think I picked up the same set today, 44 pcs. long and short; sae and metric; $49.00, also bought a breaker bar $19.98

Finally got a chance to read through the flyers. CT has 1000w inverters on sale this week (ends by Friday I think). Next week the the sale is on the 2000w inverters but the shelf was marked down already. I grabbed the 2000w invertor.

That's the one. The 2000w unit is on sale for $190. It says there are 2 outlets but the unit has 3. It has a 2 year exchange warranty at any CT store.

There are 3 different 1000w inverters on sale until today (maybe tomorrow)

- $90: CT item 11-1871-4 (save 60)
- $160: CT item 11-1892-4 (save 120)
- $180: CT item 11-1867-6 (save 120)

It is nearly impossible to tell the difference between the models from the box. The $180 unit also acts as a battery charger. So if you draw too much from the battery you can plug the until into a 100v outlet and change the truck's battery.

I looked at them the one for 89 and the one for 179 are modified sine wave which means not pure power the one for 159 is a pure sine wave. Although we use a modified sine wave inverter to run our family cottage and have never had a problem with them running any device we use up there including computers. The Inverther/Charger sounds like a nice one. Especially because it has an automatic switch that does AC Bypass while charging.

Where do folks get their supplies to wire these in?

Anything against a modified sine wave inverter?

With the 2000w and drawing the full amount a 200 amp fuse is needed <yikes>. Think I might want a second yellow top hooked up and a beefed up alternator!

other than running ac drives and some switching power supplies they work just fine. as for supplies i've always stuck with Car Audio shops they tend to have the best cable for the job at least it's the most flexible(bendy) and remember that's 200A at full draw which you probably won't ever hit other than if you run a small heater in the truck.

I will need to check out my smaller compressor to see what it will draw (reason why I went with 2000w). Rather an buying another compressor specifically for the truck. If it will not run this compressor then I will exchange it for another model and get an extra compressor ;)

I was thinking of an RV specific place for cables and such but if audio places carry good cables and connections then I will give them a go too.

I think Luke changed to another 2 ga. cable to help with over heating.

I think it depends where you mount it. The specs are #4 cable but that is within 6' of the battery. If you mount in the rear of the truck you might want #1 or 2 cable.

Thanks Ron. I am thinking it would be best in the back for ventilation. Will run a rope first to see how long the wire will have to be.

Wow, how did I not contribute to this topic! :)

My truck I've got a 1750w (replaced my swamped 1200w), it's a 3-outlet and *just* fits under the passenger seat (with some convincing), I dont think the 2000w one would, the old 2000w was probably too long, and the new 2000w looks to be too thick. There hasn't been anything I haven't been able to run on that one. Sucks if I ever swap that one. Looks like it would be either the 1500w or 2000w for replacing it :S Actually the 3000w looks like it's not as tall as the 2000w? Anyway...

I cut down my U-bolts at AW with my grinder, and my girlfriend was very pleased/impressed that she could use her hair straightener while camping out of a truck. There's nothing yet it hasn't been able to run...but I haven't tried to push that either...now where's my toaster! ;)

It does get pissed off because the inverter technically has 2 power input connections and I'm only running one. I'll get to that eventually, just means I have to run another 0awg through the firewall, but maybe then I'll do 2x 2awg to make life easier, but I'm a big fan of running 0awg for anything heavy duty, despite that I'm less than a 6ft run. I also get my wire from car audio shops. I got marine cable once cause it was the only 0awg I could find around (while in Virginia), and that wasn't cheap :S. I'm also 200amp fused. If you check out the pics in the dual-battery how-to, the blue wire off the secondary battery goes to my inverter.

2000w is mostly plenty, especially in a vehicle. 2000w / 120v = 16.6amps of (peak) power, which is quite a bit to run almost anything you'll ever need. Once when I had my 1200w, I wanted to clean the truck, but my dad was also working outside and using the extension cord that I would of needed to make it to the parking lot besides my parents place where I park. So i just grabbed the shop vac (2hp?) and plugged it into the truck. Well he comes over after a bit with this bizzar look on his face. I guess he was trying to figure where I was plugged in, it was pretty funny.

I think Simon ran an inverter/compressor combo in his old Pathy.

As far as I've read and seen, there's little reason to need a pure sine wave inverter unless you have a specific need. Here's a good quick blurb on their advantages:

I've still got the 1000w inverter in my X, and have run my wall mount CH compressor on it a number of times. Works just fine. I ran 4G wire, through a 100a marine breaker, to my amp and inverter. I don't run my amp when I've got anything high draw connected to the inverter.
