Hello all. been a while since I was here last. On the first start of the day, rpm drop almost to zero for about 1-2 seconds and the settles at its normal range. If I turn the truck off and start it again it starts and runs fine. Its only the first start of the day. any hints? 2006 X

Probably needs the base idle adjusted, which iirc on an 06 needs to be done with a diagnostic tool.

Thanks Morpheus. The idle is fine all the time, with the exception of that first 2 seconds after the first start of the day.

Are you losing any coolant?

No coolant loss. everything is normal except that first cold start.

Good, shouldn't be a head gasket then. Keep an eye on the coolant though to be sure.

Thanks Bow_Tied. Just spoke to another X owner to see if ever had a similar issue, and he did. He thinks it could be a really dirty MAF sensor?

I'd kinda think that'd be seen at more than just at cold start-up, but possibly.
Do you run a K&N or other oiled filter? If so, over-oiling can coat the MAF wires, which to Gary's point, are delicate. Use MAF cleaner and don't touch the wires. Get a new air filter. Cheap thing to try and good to have done even if not the problem. While in there check the connections for loose wires on the MAF connector and IAT connector if equipped (I don't own an X so not sure).

Thanks everyone for your input. It seems when my truck was serviced a few weeks ago, the air filter was changed. Turns out the tech forgot to take all the plastic wrap off the filter,which caused an air flow problem. All good and runs like a charm. See ya all in the pit.

The base idle can still be a source, as everything is based off that initial setting.

Cleaning the MAF, and the throttle body is a good start, then setting the base idle and go from there.

Also as someone mentioned, the K&N filters are not good for the MAF if you are using one.

That was an easy fix!! Thanks for following up.
