My truck makes funny noises!

Post by lowridah313 »

When I'm close to full lock, it sounds like something is binding in the front. I get this really loud creeking/popping noise from the drivers side(I think). The truck is basically stock, with a homemade IAB. Any thoughts?

Close to, or AT full lock? It's not uncommon for the plastic to wear off the steering stops, and cause a horrible screech when you're at full lock and you hit a bump.

You can grease them periodically to keep it from making that noise.

Then it could be any number of things....

tie rod ends
centerlink
ball joints
Sway bar endlinks

Jack up the front end, and check for play in the front end.

Did you at least grease the bump stops to see if that stopped it? If its a creeking sound of dry metal on metal, thats what it is.

You may need someone outside to determine where its coming from exactly.

My end caps creak like a mofo if I don't grease them up... It's NASTY!

Although, I love the look on people's faces when you are backing down a driveway and the caps start singing... They look at you like you have a nuclear missle sticking out of your truck, and it's aimed right at them...

I have a mysterious front end clunk too, I just haven't had the time to get under there and take a GOOD look.

The clunk could be loose bushings from the stab links, causing the links to move up and down.

The Bushings are my first suspect, but in the quick eyeballing of them, they appeared to be ok.

Now, I didn't get the truck off the ground to check, I just peeked my head in the wheel well to see if I could see anything, and they appeared to be ok, but I'm not taking them off the list of things to check, that's for sure...

I was GOING to look at everything this weekend, but those plans got trumped by about 10 other things...

I thought this summer was going to be slow for me... NOPE! :cry2:
