driveshaft?

Post by bruteforce08 »

Will an 04 rear driveshaft fit an 01 Xterra? My parts guy told me he could find a u joint, but he lied. I found a wrecked 04 xterra and I'm kind of desperate.

There are 2 different drive shaft's listed from 2000-2004

One is listed as a "flange type" and the other listed as a "strap type"

I'd say if it looks the same, it will fit. I don't know what the diffrerence is between the two.

I think A strap type is where the shaft is held to the diff with 2 straps over 2 of the ujoint cups, like this:

And a flange type is where there is a flange that the ujoint is attached to as well as the drive shaft, like this:

Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

That was my thought too, but the last time I saw a driveshaft like the first pic, it was in a ford.

Mine's like the first picture. I got NAPA to look up a Frontier ujoint and they have three in stock. Here's hoping it works. It's gonna be an interesting day. I'm supposed to leave in less than 24 hours for the first stop on a 4 day wheelin' trip. Life likes to mess with me sometimes!
