Rear spring install 2000 Pathfinder

Post by 00pathyse »

Hey guys,
I'm planning on replacing my rear springs with some new OEM ones. My old springs are worn badly. I've never done this before but don't think it should be too difficult. I was planning on lowering the rear axle with a jack to get the old springs out and get the new ones in. Is there anything I need to disconect before doing this, other than the shocks of course? Don't want to break or bend anything. If anyone has any suggestions for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Shocks, sway bar and possibly the panhard rod should be disconnected. Jack the back end up, get some jackstands under the "frame" then lower the axle down until the tension is off the springs. Installation is reverse of removal.

Out of curiosity, why do you think the springs are worn? If it is because you find the rear end swaying a bit it could be control arm bushings. If it's the back end is just sagging, then the springs may need doing... just hate to see ya change the wrong parts.

Thanks for the remarks. Yea ths springs are definetly sagging. I measured the ground to arch height as per the fsm and it sits almost 2 inchs low on the left rear and about an Inch and a bit on the right. They also feel horrible over bumps. Other than that the truck feels great to drive-no problems. I'll make sure I check the panhard, and sway bar before lowering the axle. I'm also wondering if the brake lines will be okay?
