try general scrap metals- motors(electric), cast alumiminum and copper are worth lots. lots of electrical and refrigeration suppliers just throw this stuff out. if you ask them you might get to rummage. good luck.

Got some stuff piling up in the office here. A desktop PC, switch and an old playstation. It's yours if you want it, but it will probably end up at the recycling deport here in waterloo by the end of the week.

Wow, resurrecting from the past. Just actually paying attention to this post now and while I don't have any electronics, I have some words of advice. I deal with Simms who are the largest electronic recyclers in the area. Your son should be wearing proper dust mask when doing this, especially if he is doing printers with toner. Those particles can get into the lungs. If working on CRT's, they used to have a large capacitor at the back of the tube which stored enough power to send you for a loop. We used to use a big ass screwdriver with insulated handle to discharge the capacitor.
When doing glass, separate clear from all else. Clear has higher value than colored/opaque glass.
Don't do home smelting to removed plastics off of wire. The fumes are carcinogenic and other nasty things. That's the problem in China as the kids are smelting large piles of wire to removed the plastic, and the fumes are polluting the air and local water supplies.

Hey all, just thought i would give this a bump, in time for your spring cleaning! All you I T guys, lets get those server rooms cleaned out! We want all of your obsolete electronics.

We are happy to report we now have a home for 100% of all material recycled. Nothing goes in the trash.

We also make sure all material is processed and refined right here in Canada. Nothing goes overseas in shipping containers.

All hard drives are destroyed 100% to prevent data mining.

We can pick up all over Southern Ontario

I know there will be a lot of server room upgrades this year to take advantage of higher power machines that are far more cost effective to run, so please keep us in mind when you make the switch over.
