No Power To Side Marker Lights

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

I've been giving the truck some TLC and picked up some new sockets for my side markers since they were broken. Testing them, there's no power coming out of them. I went to test at the pigtail connector, which had a broken/corroded pin, so I chopped that off, but I'm getting nothing on that part of the harness. I even tested on the other side of the truck. I do need to verify that my running lights are working but I thought they were both burnt. I know the copper is black from corrosion, but I should still get something; the ground is ok as it still tests for continuity regardless.

Regardless, if there was a problem with that circuit, I shouldn't be getting anything for my tail lights or my newly repaired license plate light either...According to the FSM diagram, they're all on the came circuit/fuse, and I think on the same fuse, but I checked them all anyway and they're all good.

Anyone have any experience with this problem?

I had a problem on a friend's car where one of my turn signals had no power, and it turned out the wire way up the line somewhere had rubbed on something and got cut. I just had to keep probing further back until we found the problem.

I had an evap problem where the insulation had broken and the wire rotted out inside it. Best advice? Back trace til you get juice, wire new from there. You kept the old sockets?

Actually as I went to remove the headlight and noticed a connector. I guess a single connector on the truck splits into the signal and parking light on the headlamp unit. I tested it from there and it had power, than retested at the harness end and I had power. I don't know if it was just unhappy, and it needed to be disconnected and reconnected, but it worked after...

Great, now my drivers side signal light isn't working, I've got no power running to that line, but the rear drivers side works...wtf! The parking light and side markers work however...

Well I worked on this yesterday for what I could until I ran out of light. Ran 12v into the out (Green/Yellow) from the signal stalk and just got the rear light. Even tested from the connection under the drivers seat just for the fun with the same result. I powered the front light circuit directly from the wire and that came on, but of course, nothing out to the rear....pretty much as we suspected.

I tried to follow the harness from the stalk, but oddly it *seems* to run directly to the engine bay and doesn't really branch off anywhere else under the dash, but I'm just hoping it's me that didn't check right; it is jam packed under there in that corner, and it doesn't make sence for it to run into the engine bay, than from there to double-back to the back of the truck. I wish they had some sort of body electrical diagram for the lights, the FSM doesn't give me too much but diagrams for the lights...

I've got this from the FSM. Highlighted in red is where I'm 99.9% sure lies the problem. But the issue is locating the joint and where that wire physically runs, and if there's other issues developing in that harness....

Well I did the whole round, and that line it runs into the connector on the passenger kick panel, than goes up that side, past the fuse box, then across the rad support, and to the drivers side headlight....all rather than following the harness inside on the driver side gromet....

In the end it was a pinched wire that wasn't obvious from the outside, but the copper was broken on the inside. Definitely a learning experience, and I can properly fix it, rather than just running some wire for a quick fix.

Thanks for all the help! And especially Morpheous for the info and diagrams!

The Xterra could just be pissed at you because you are not going to AW.

Oh she could very well be! She's throwing a tantrum because of all her new mods and she can't even show them off. Women are so ungrateful, you spend so much money on them, and they're still not happy...

We're heading to Las Vegas to celebrate my girlfriend's 30th birthday (that was her dream) and leaving the 1st. Even though we had planned to leave later, doing both that and AW is just a bit much for time and expenses. While I'm disapointed to have to miss out AW this year, it's a special occasion, but with that I DEFINITELY want to be there for AW next year!
