Frontier Gauges 2000-2004

So I am buying a Fronty here and I have a question about there gauges. Some have the 3 pod gauges and some have the open 1 window gauge.

Why is this and which years or models have the 1 window gauge like normal gauge

I don't remember exactly, but I think the early 2000-2001 was one open cluster
02-04 came with the 3 opening pod.

Don't quote me on that, it's just off the top of my head.

Im fairly certain it's years. All the 03 models (XE/SE) have the same dash pod orientation, just the background is slightly different.
like the supercharged version has white guages on some models.

Again, no actual data that I know of, just out of memory.

Yes but not sure if thats such a great idea for me considering they have it warming and cooling the trans. Most of the weather here is pretty cold so that would act to warm it up.

I read that the Fix is as simple as changing the Rad but can't find which one they be replacing it with as factory would end up being the same problem?

So still have some questions if any want to give me some answers if ya know them

Is there a CSF aluminum rad for the Frontier? The CSF/Stillen unit for the Titan is a nice piece.

Ya, but stupid expensive.
The transmission generates enough heat on its own. The only real reason they do this is to prevent drivability issues when driving away when cold.
The transmission has a bunch of sensors in it.
If the fluid is too cold, and you ask it to do something it's not prepared for, the TCM will lock you out.
Same reason you can physically shift it into 1st gear while driving at 100kph and it won't actually shift.
If you were in -20c weather and you jumped on the highway the instant you started it and tried to go 150kph, you might notice that it won't come out of 2nd or 3rd gear for about 30 seconds until the transmission generates enough heat to warm the fluid. It won't do any damage to it tho.

The tranny has a cooler in the rad and an external cooler - all OEM (at least in the mod...not sure if all have both). The tranny cooler helps warm up the fluid faster. All the mod is doing is by-passing the rad portion. The external cooler is still present.
Like Morpheus has said, if the tranny thinks the fluid is not warmed up enough then it won't do it (some fail safes unlike olden days) or it stays longer in a lower gear until the fluid is warm enough (contributes to a worsening fuel economy on colder days).
I am not sure about our trucks but I know on some others the tranny will not let the converter to lock up when it thinks the fluid is not warm enough and/or it won't shift into overdrive until the fluid is warm enough.

I am not sure about our trucks but I know on some others the tranny will not let the converter to lock up when it thinks the fluid is not warm enough and/or it won't shift into overdrive until the fluid is warm enough.

I know mine with the factory cooler bypassed, on really cold days the torque converter will never lock up. I have a transmission temp guage and it barely got past 130F. So I hooked the factory cooler back in line and now it stays warm(er). It definitely makes the gas mileage worse.

Wow, the Titan wasn't nearly that bad maybe $350 (less according to the Stillen site).
