The official release will be coming monday, but I found out today that effective Monday, nissan will be changing the warranty on CVT transmissions in ALL nissan models from 2003-2010 from it's current 5 year / 100,000km to 10 year 200,000km.

Additionally, any customers that had transmissions replaced and paid out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Mods: I posted this here because I thought it should be premium members only info until it's officially released to the public.

thanks for the info... I don't know about you guys, but that's the first time I ever hear something like this from a car manufacturer.... even reimbursing the clients that paid !.... I guess nissan is pretty confident on their product...

That is great to see. To bad they didn't do that for the power valve screw victims.

They're also dropping the price of the transmissions by approx $1300 on average to make out of warranty repairs more in-line with a regular automatic transmission repair costs.

They don't put CVT transmissions in any of the trucks though do they? I don't count Muranos & Rogues as trucks, I consider them cross-overs.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a CVT transmission?

I think it is constantly variable trans. THere is no set of forwards gears but rather a one variable "gear"... similar in principle to snowmobile drive belt/variable pulley diameter idea.

I just had my 05 X tranny and Rad replaced due to a faulty design in rad which made me have to get a new tranny. Is that covered? I had to pay $6100 and it would be the best news ever if I could get that money back!

The 04 Xterra automatic is the RE4 R01A which is a 4 speed.
