Warn hub studs

I just looked at my truck this morning and found 1 missing and 1 backed way out. Can I get these from Fastenal , Brafasco or Spaenaur? Does any one know what size these are?

You sure can, just take one of the nuts with you to match it up the threads. Plus dont forget the lock wahers if any are missing

Best bet is to take your original hub bolts to a fastener store, and get some shorter ones. 1.5-2" would be plenty long enough. You'll want hex cap bolts as well, as they're easier to work with on the hubs.

The studs are prone to problems. I know a few people who've swapped them out. Mine (knock on wood) have been okay, but I'm in the minority, Ithink.

Did you put locktite before? If you did then my guess is someone was trying to teaf it from you. Also dont forget the locktite because they do get loose.

The Red stuff is near impossible to get the bolts back out...

Blue will hold everything nice and tight, but will allow you to remove the bolts when you need access anything.

Red is FOREVER...

Ok, I need a trick to get a stud thats half out, back in. The nut is off but I cant spin the stud. I'm getting the feeling like i'm missing something stupid. It's Monday you know.

Anybody have a write-up on repacking the Warn hub? Mine are in need of a little TLC, and would be nice to have a little reminder on how to do it...

That depends.

IF the original grease (used very sparingly) is gone, use a little typical wheel bearing grease in there. It won't hurt. You just don't PACK the hub full of grease, as that will cause usability issues, typically when unlocking.

Other than that, take them off, clean them up, a touch of grease, and re attach. Be sure to use some silicone between the cap and body of the hub to keep out the moisture. Hi temp silicone gasket maker works great.

Vice grips. Pull it out. Check the hole for any debris, chase the threads (if you have a tap and die set) and then re-insert. Make sure you don't let the vice grip slip on the stud as you're backing it out, or threading it back in, or you'll never get the nut back on.

Lol, that was plan "C" ish. Looks like the finesse solution is out.

Only other option is to try to cut a groove into the end of the stud, and use a flat head screwdriver to back it out. Actually, that'd be my attempt right before vice grips.
