Titan Grounding kit

Post by Nismojunky »

Well I made a Grounding kit for my Titan following the install instructions on activetuning for my Titan, huge difference in the transmission, it shift faster smoother and idles alot smoother just thought id share went to my local audio shop picked up 8.5 feet of 4Gauge 10 ring terminals cut to the size and followed the directions. Thought I'd post it up!!

http://www.activetuning.com/products/ni ... lation.php

took about 45 mins and cost me 21$ and a few beers

I did "the big 3" on my old Subie and it was great. Never thought of doing it on the truck, maybe it's worth a shot here too...

I made one of these kits for my Spec V when I had it. I've had the same idea of making on for the Xterra as well, but my plan was to use the bulk welding cable that you can purchase from PA as opposed to dropping big coin on over-priced Audio Cable...

The question I always have though, is about the resistance in the welding cable versus Audio cabling.

I have read on a few boards about how the VG series engines are somewhat finicky when it comes to electrical grounding, so that's why I was thinking about doing it...

"Finicky" as in the more the better? Time to rummage through my "audio parts box". I doubt I have any good lengths of descent sized cable though.

Pretty much, yes. The basis gist of what I had read way back when was that the ground cables on the motor tend to get a lot of corrosion and lose their grounding ability, so the ECU starts getting interference or whatever... So, you either replace the stock ones, or upgrade what you have and add more in for good measure.

When it comes to ground wires, you can't really have too many, so...

I've had one of the kits installed for years. I don't know if there is any benefit but I don't see any harm.

When I did mine in previous cars I just did as Nismo Junky did: Some beefy audio cable, some wire loom to cover it up (if yo want) and some ends to bolt it down.

I've decided I want to do this, just don't know when I'll get around to it. Likely wait until the weather becomes a little more pleasant.

I've actually added this to my list of shizzles to do on the truck this spring.

Unfortunately, the list is long, and the money tree is not as plentiful as it has been in previous years...

I still think it's a good idea though. :D

We should all do it at the same time. First truck will take an hr, each one after probably 20 minutes lol.

There's a Sayal electronics distributor near me, they sell to the public. One day I can stop in on my way home from work to see if they have what we would need and if their prices are any better than an audio shop.

I would imagine that their prices for the wires would be better the most Audio shops, almost by default. Very much like the Monster cableing that you can purchase at places like Future Shop or Best Buy, the wire that they offer is marked up something fierce, so you are literally throwing away money for a name brand.

And if it's done as a group thing, you'll save even more money by purchasing a big spool of cable, i.e., buying in bulk.

You'll spend more time cutting and crimping your connectors then you do actually installing everything!
