Hello from Toronto!! (Canada's most disliked city, I know)
Hello everyone! I'm new to CNTC and in the process of purchasing my very first Xterra (2012). I have always liked it have finally decided to buy it. I do have a general question though for all the owners out there:
Is there anything you wish you knew about the Xterra before you bought it or you would have done differently before making that purchase decision?
Thanks a lot for your help!

There's going to be little things that get under your skin, no matter what vehicle you get.
The Xterra is not known for it's fuel efficiency.
That is all I will say about that.
And welcome to the club!

Re: Hello from Toronto!! (Canada's most disliked city, I kno
I have a 2010 Xterra Offroad model. It depends what you are doing with your Xterra but if you plan to wheel it I definitly recommend getting the Offroad/Pro-4X model with the skid plates and rear locker. Other than that, I love my X I don't regret anything other than I have pretty bad fuel economy with my 5" lift! lol I recommend going to Agincourt Nissan. One more thing is that on the earlier models (2005ish) the tranny oil can mic with the radiator fluid causing serious problem but that can fix with a simple mod. Also check out thenewx.org for all the other info on the mod and other mods!

I don't dislike your city, I hate it. I feel loathing build at just the thought of it.
I don't hate you though, maybe after I get to know you.

The current off-road packages are Pro-4X, past models had the same functional features with the Off-Road designation.
What's the difference? Off-Road can't be registered as a trade mark..or copyright...Pro-4X can be.

Re: Hello from Toronto!! (Canada's most disliked city, I kno
Thanks for all the 'Welcomes' and replies.
After reading through all of them I have some questions and answers.
Jayman
I've seen the stated fuel ratings of 10-14.5 l/100km but it's always hard to tell how accurate those are vs. real life gas mileage. I'm not buying this to commute in so I'm not so worried but it would be good to know how real driving stacks up against the manufacturer stated mileage.
Draconian
I've been going to Agincourt Nissan and dealing with a couple guys there. I've also been talking to other dealers trying to work out the best price on a 2012 SV. If you have any inside info I'd like to hear it. I'm not a huge fan of over paying for stuff.
Xtrapol8
hahahhaa nope, not from Newmarket, Markham or Uxbridge (thank god). Did have a roommate from Newmarket though. I'm from Toronto, as in the City of Toronto. Again sorry. Not my fault I like to walk to work.
Miner
It's amazing how common that exact reaction is. Just like Americans traveling in Europe when I used to travel around Canada for work I would not tell people I was from Toronto if I could avoid it.
Anyone/Everyone:
I have been thinking about getting the SV over the PRO-4X but am not set in that decision. The reason being the difference in ride. I found the PRO-4X transfers a lot more movement to the driver/passenger over the SV which is the reason for that decision along with not being sure I will need the rear locker at this particular point in time. I don't have rock crawling and mudding plans in the near future. Does everyone here have an SV and wish they went the PRO-4X route or vice versa? Is there something that can be done about the PRO-4X to make for a more comfortable ride or is that just the nature of the beast?
Thanks for the help!

Welcome!
I was born and raised in Toronto, and lived there til just 6 years ago or so. Great city - If you choose a neighbourhood that rocks. I chose Keele/Bloor for the last 15 years I was there. I like the country thing but I miss the hustle and bustle. I dislike Toronto now as the condos go up and take out my favourite book store (Pages, which was on the north side of Queen near City-TV.) I also like always being able to find good work.
Anyways, welcome to the club.

Are you dead set on an SUV? I've been getting a lot of use out of my pickup and it make life a lot easier if you are a homeowner and DYI'er. I sometimes miss having 4 seats, but I get by with 2 and the jumpseat in the back. A 4-door pickup would be nice too, despite the longer wheelbase and overall length. Not really something I would like driving/parking in a busy city though.

Re: Hello from Toronto!! (Canada's most disliked city, I kno
A (My) 4-door pickup is great for a family, the girls prefer the truck to either of the Volvos, however the sacrificed bed length is something I miss. My last truck was a regular cab 8' box and you get used to the hauling space. My current truck is a crew cab 5.5' box, which is perfect >95% of the time. As I spend as much time as possible in rural Ontario parking isn't an issue for me. If/when I'm in the market for a new truck I'm set on a crew cab 6.5'-7' bed, for me it is the best compromise.nige wrote:Are you dead set on an SUV? That being said, owning and having access to 8' bed trucks and trailers of every description makes having a longer bed for <5% of the time not worthwhile.
