Bumper re-painting

Post by medic »

Hi All,

I've been looking for some time for a place that would grind/sandblast my bumper, and epoxy prime-paint it.

Many of the places I've gone to can't do my bumper, but was hoping someone knew of someone who could help me out. My Calmini bumper is peppered with rust and I want to take care of it once and for all (and not blowing the bank)

THANKS :happydance:

Who have you tried? Body shops? It's not going to be cheap, you might want to do some of the prep work yourself to save a little moola.

I know this may seem silly, but have you checked with Bender, that lad that does his bumpers may be able to sort you out. The work I saw on SGT.B's was great.

Jay doesn't do the painting/priming, he has them sent out for that part of the work.

Jay is the man to talk to though - he sends the stuff out to a Mennonite dude around here. The guy is very fair with the his costs (I think he runs $20/hr, but I might be wrong.) He'll blast the old paint off, and then repaint the steel properly.

I suspect you're looking at about $150 for the bumper.

So all you need is the guy's phone number.

The place I used to work at sent their military parts to be sandblasted at Fishburn Proctor (Steeles west of Winston Churchill). They did good work and were very competitive.

The guy I use is $120.00 per hour. Your bumper, because you sprayed that crap on it with out proper prepping, will most likely run you about an hour and a half.

You and I have been through this already many times, so its still a matter of sucking it up and getting it done. ;)

After blasting, which my guy uses the right grade of bead, it will likely run you about $70.00 for primer and $100.00 for paint, no clear coat. Just rough figures of course.

Dropping my bumper and sliders off next week to get redone!!!

I know that I need at least 2 coats of epoxy primer, but is there a specific type of coating I should ask for??

He said that he uses a black semi-gloss, but would like to know what is best for a bumper?

Thanks.....I want this bumper to last for the next 10 years, and not rust every other year :fist:
