Looking for a place to buy Doug Thorley Headers in Guelph

Post by strykah »

Hey guys,
Ive been looking all over the internet to see the "best " price for the Doug Thorley headers for my 03 xe cc.
Pretty much the whole exhaust needs done so Im going to upgrade.
Anyone know of a good site (maybe cheap or free shipping in canada) to get the headers and exhaust from?
Maybe even a place to order them from around Guelph?

Anyways
Thanks Guys and I really enjoy this site, its helped me with a tonne of stuff.

I got mine direct from Doug. And my advice is to do the same. Doug was very supportive when I had questions, and even sent a few bits and pieces gratis - expedited and all. I don't think it's worth trying to save a few bucks by finding a guy here.

Nismo cat back if you can find a set. Then you need to find a place to join the headers to the cat-back system. I had Carriage Works in Milton install the headers and cat-back on my 01. They deal with stainless exhaust and cats as well as other work (some nice cars in and out of that shop).

Been meaning to get them to join the two systems on my 01 but other things came up and I put the project on hold.

Thanks for the reply,
I was thinking carraige works too. I work in Milton at Karmax and everyone tells me they do good stuff. I'll have to swing by there after work and see what they are saying. I might just get them to make me up a system. Also kinda thinking of eliminating the cats if I do get them to build me a system. Im on the fence with the idea, I think the lack of back pressure could cause me problems. Am i right to think that? Eather way Im due for a emission test this year so I'll get that done before I get everything on.

There are CEL eliminators that fool the computer into thinking the cats are working (assuming the O2 sensors are in good shape)

I do not know if you need the back-pressure from the cats (some switched to racing cats that have higher flow).

If the truck were strictly off-road then the cats are not necessary but if you are running on the roads then IMO it is a good idea to keep the emission stuff working.

I got my headers from Rugged Rocks, figured I'd support some of the Nissan offroad community (AC got a good chuck of money from me in other stuff, they do sell them too) but there's no source for them in Canada as car as I found.

I've been running catless it'll be 2 years come spring, using Vibrant CEL eliminators. I have a friend that I used to work with say I'd burn the valve seals (I think it was) without backpressure, but I think that's bull. It also depends on where you live, cause me being in Quebec, we don't have e-tests (mind you with the new system, if you have no code, you'll pass if they don't so a visual inspection) and they're also less strict if you get caught; where I would get a 48hr fix-it-ticket rather than in Ontario they would pull the plates on the spot. But exhaust shops legally can't remove the cats, so you may have a hard time finding a place that will.

GRREEAAATTTT!! I blew a hole in my exhaust manifold (SECOND TIME!!!!) and I just bought these Thorley headers. Are you sure that an exhaust shop in Ontario won't remove those upper cats?

They may not hook up all the sensors. Just drive home and finish it. Legally they can't tie everything together.

If you don't feel like doing it yourself just find a place that will do it for cash...It's what I did on my old pathfinder.

There is a place in Milton where I had mine done. They removed the pre-cats and put in the CEL eliminators. Decent guys at the Carriage House (and decent cars in the garage too).

Yeah the place in Milton does good work im told too from guys from work. I think its called Coach Works (maybe, I alwasy get them mixed up, its on Main street)

I bought the Thorley Headers, new secondary cats from rock auto, new Y-pipe and a Gibson cat back, so when it gets warmer out im going to tacklee it,
I also bought new gaskets all over and a 18mmx1.5mm Tap and Die to whip up some CEL's. I can do this at work on some free time. Maybe I'll go in to production! lol
I didnt get any new o2 sensors as mine are not throwing codes. but if anyone has installed headers and had a rough time getting old ones out please let me know.

I didn't need CEL eliminators for my DT headers if anyone does not want to use the eliminators. I have magnaflow heavy duty cats (heavy duty apparently is like a stock cat v.s a highflow) And I have Honda accord cats I believe because it has a mid bed 02 rather then putting the secondary 02's past the cat mine go right into it and I do not throw codes at all and everything reaches. Also even though they are Accord cats I was able to get a large enough end diameter to fit my bigger than stock exhaust.

Your stock O2 may not work as they are quite long and in the primary one - on the driver side - it will jam on the firewall. I used NGKs (part # to follow) as they are shorter. Still need to cut a plate on the firewall but not as difficult as using OEM O2s.

Cut a place in the firewall? Wonder if it's a difference between having a BL and not...

I installed CEL eliminators just case. Don't know if I need them, but why take the chance
