Transmission questions
Hey all, I hope you can help me out.
I have a 2003 X with a 3.3 naturally asperated, and a 5 speed 4x4.
Here's the issue. The rear case half of the transmission has rotted through the aluminum at the transmission mount.
The manual transmissions for the 3.3n/a are rare on car-part, but the 5 speed for the supercharged 3.3 don't share the same affliction. What are the differences between the two gearboxes?
Will a supercharged transmission work behind a n/a engine? differences in spline counts or case lengths etc?
Cheers

Re: Transmission questions
Welcome to CNTC, C.C.!
I don't have the answers to your questions, but hopefully someone here will.
I have to wonder if there isn't some other fix possible without changing the trans. Any pics of the problem area?

Re: Transmission questions
I was told the transmission itself is the same but it is the clutch/flywheel that is different for the sc model.

Re: Transmission questions
The transmission case rotted between the mount and caused the transmission bolt casting to snap. Also causing fluid to leak out. I thought about having it tigged, but I still have to get the case to seal where it's gone porous. Hard to tig something with that much oil contaminating the weld.Bow_Tied wrote:Welcome to CNTC, C.C.!

Looks to be a common problem area tho. Plaztek recyclers has two cores. I thought great just steal the rear case off one, but nope it's where they're both rotted. BALLS! lol
I'll take a pic tomorrow.

Re: Transmission questions
Used to be a common problem all the time, but I haven't actually heard of one doing it for years.

Re: Transmission questions
I seem to recall a differing gear ratio as well, but I'm not 100% on that

Re: Transmission questions
no, no extra warranties.
here's the exploded pic
if it's the 32130M part you need, I can get them new from the warehouse, instock.
retail is $390+tax. If you go down that road, let me know, give me a call and I'll get you a much better deal, but it obviously means tearing apart a transmission. Manual's are generally a piece of cake to disassemble and reassemble though.

Re: Transmission questions
Can't be any worse then the 350Z 6 speed. Looks like my best option, so I'll take it. You sir have a TXT.Morpheus wrote:no, no extra warranties.

Re: Transmission questions
From what I remember it's the 350z and xterra manual transmissions are virtually identical. I can print the service manual for you.
