2nd Gen Input T-Case oil seal

Post by JAS »

I got a slight oil leak at the union between the transmission and the TC. I was able to identify that the fluid is from the TC so I have ordered a new input seal. It looks like a big job to get at it in order to replace it. I have never removed the TC so I am looking for any input that anyone may have on this. I read the service manual which spells out the process in good detail, but if anyone has any suggestions/tricks I am all ears. One specific question I have is the weight of the TC? Does anyone know what these things weight? Just trying to anticipate on what I am in for.

Thanks for any and all input!

How many km's are on the X?

Found a pathfinder thread that stated 124lbs shipping weight for the transfer case, probably close.

The X has just over 181K. Already replaced the front output and rear output seals.

Thanks on the weight estimate. That's more then I would have guessed.

That weight estimate is probably real close. Mine is a 94 model but the trans+tcase combo weighed nearly 300lbs when I took it over the scale for scrap after my swap.

Tryed a search on CF for ya, but came up with nothing :( You might have a better chance yourself as the search isn't the greatest. I'd have to guess its probably 150-200lbs. When I pulled the tranny years back I had the transfer case attached and that baby was a beast to lift. Good luck and maybe post a few pics If you can if the problem area. I'd like to see what that looks like. Good luck.
