Titan speedo

So I hope I'm not duplicating an other post but I couldn't find anything when I searched. I know we've touched on the topic before but does anyone have a solution to calibrating the titan speedo for larger tires? With the 37's I'm currently running I figure my speedo is out close to 17% and I'm just getting sick of having to turn my GPS on to make sure I'm not about to get a ticket.

I'm just about to order one of these. Several of my friends with modded cars say it works great. The speedo on my truck is off about 12%. There are other brands like the yellow box but I've not heard anything about them. Hope this helps.

From what I've read there is nothing that can be done to correct the trucks speedometer. The only options are GPS units, HUD units that display a GPS generated speed onto the windshield, and some programmers that remain plugged in can display a corrected speed.

The Titan pulls it's speedo measurements from the exciter rings at each wheel. Sorry Adam, I don't think that device will work.

I believe Nissan ran into some trouble with there speedometer, and odometer, calibrations. Nissan fixed the calibration to the largest tire diameter sold on the vehicle ~32.8" on the Titan Off-Road package. Therefore with a "33" the Titan is accurate, however with anything smaller the calibration under estimates speed and over estimates distance...and owners were shortchanged in their warranties. We have the opposite problem.

Distance and speed are a function of circumference of the tire, which is pie times diameter...therefore we can work in ratios of the diameter.
(33" tire - 33" calibration) / 33" calibration = ~0% inaccuracy
(34" tire - 33" calibration) / 33" calibration = ~3% inaccuracy
(35" tire - 33" calibration) / 33" calibration = ~6% inaccuracy
(37" tire - 33" calibration) / 33" calibration = ~12% inaccuracy

In the real world there are additional factors affecting the accuracy and most tires don't measure what they are marketed as. My 34's are 33.8" and 3% is what I see, my 35's are ~34.5" and return 5%.

The programmers that claim speed correction apply the ratio above as a correction factor to display a corrected speed on their screen, they do nothing to calibrate the vehicle speed on a Nissan.

I've been looking into that as well and the 04 model I have came with 31's as the largest size. After I did the math it looks like I'm out 16.2%.

I thought the 04 Off-Road came with 285/70R17 @ ~32.8".... I know the 05 through 07 did.

Nissan's First Entry in Full-Size Truck Market Offers Power, Innovation and Value
DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2003--Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) of $22,400 and $25,100 for its breakthrough 2004 Nissan Titan King Cab and Titan Crew Cab full-size pickups, respectively, which go on sale in early December at Nissan dealerships nationwide.

The Titan is Nissan's first entry into the full-size truck market, joining the full-size Nissan Pathfinder Armada sport utility vehicle (SUV), which went on sale in October. Both the Titan and Pathfinder Armada are assembled at Nissan's new $1.43 billion manufacturing facility in Canton, Mississippi.

Unique Product Attributes and Unique Pricing Philosophy

Every 2004 Titan features a powerful 305-horsepower/379 lb-ft torque-rated 5.6-liter Nissan Endurance V8 engine, standard 5-speed automatic transmission and a wide variety of available innovations such as the High-Utility Bed with Utili-track(TM) channel tie-down system and standard Wide-Open rear doors on all King Cab models. Properly equipped, Titan can tow up to 9,500 pounds and offers class-leading 4x4 specifications such as front & rear Active Brake Limited Slip traction control (ABLS) for unparalleled off-roading, standard Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), and class-leading rear axle ground clearance.
