Clicking Noise from Engine

Post by BigRed44 »

I am guessing this might be something seriously wrong hoping not. I haven't had time to look farther but i do know it is not an exhaust leak or the fan hitting something. I get a click/knocking noise from the motor don't know if it is from the top or bottom end yet it was fine when i left home this morning and started after i had been driving a while (about 20 to 30 min ) then noticed it. didn't notice any loss of power. It does increase and decrease with RPM. Any Suggestions are welcome.

Checked the oil on my lunch is it is topped up it sounds like when you put a card in the spokes of a bike tire. and is coming from the top front of the engin. My guess right now is timing chain or guide.

Timing chain guides worn down. Very common on the vq35 and vq40. Better to repair sooner than later if this is the issue.

Depending on what i find wrong with it a diesel might be in the future especially if it is a cost effective chage vs new motor

That's not good. The timing guides usually don't just start all of a sudden, it kind of slowly starts getting louder, and it sounds more like a whining/rattling sound.

Good luck Man.

This one just gave way luckily no bent valves had to take it to Mike at Milton and have to send a Big thanks to him and his guys for getting it back on the road. But it turned out to be the timing guide and a few other warn out parts not bad for an engine that has over 240k. But happy it's back.

Good to hear luck was with you. Guess the mileage on the second belt should be a lot sooner than normal but I would not expect it to be that soon.
