Hello Everybody!
Was wondering, has anyone ever mounted a winch to a first gen xterra with the stock bumper? I don't mind cutting the bumper and making a winch fit, but I'm just looking for ideas on how to make a mount or possibly buy one?

I believe Nd4SpdSe has...he probably has it on his truck build page...now only if you had access...

Indeed. It's not mounted to the bumper, but on a plate that mounts to the frame rails. It's a tad easier with a body lift, but still very doable.

Oh that looks amazing! Exactly what I was looking for! Did you make the plate yourself or did you buy a universal one?

My dad made it for me. He was a millwright at work and it was my parents that got me the winch for Xmas, so I told him he's got to make a mount for it, which he did. It's a 1/2" plate on the bottom, and 3/8" plate for the sides.

SuperWinch 8500 comes on sale at Canadian Tire for $320. It works really good for the price. Mine lasted through 5 years of abuse, neglect, mud and winter. It's pretty simple, but what I wanted to do, but my dad didn't, was put winglets on the top to rest on the frame rails...would very much of helped facilitate the installation...

I'll keep an eye out for Canadian Tire! By the way, did you upgrade your alternator with the installation of a new winch?

I did, I'm running a 165amp and I winch all day long on it. The original alternator did have a hard time keeping up.
