If you are doing the plug in test they don't lift the cat to inspect anything. They just plug into the odb2 port, scan the barcode on the door for the vin and that's it.

So wait. Why can't you just renew the sticker where you live now, no emissions test. Or do you actually have to get it tested when you move even though the sticker is already valid? At least that would give you some time to get it fixed on your own schedule.

^ good idear. I’d have to think that etest wouldn’t apply until next renewal so get the two year on everything.

They are supposed to do an audial / visual check. But yeah, they wouldn’t lift the vehicle unless there was a reason like loud exhaust, missing cat/parts etc. I have used muffler cement just to co er a joke in the muffler for a test before for that reason.

All the years I have been getting etest... my rig would never have a cel but barely pass sniff OR easily past sniff but often have a cel. It’s such a pita.

Got the 2 year this year, so gtg for a bit. More trying to figure out whether I'm going to rush it and get my guy here to do it before I go, or try to get it down there after the move...
