Not sure where this is. Water crossings are one thing, not sure on the locale here.

It is a cool pic - although I doubt it holds up to the tread lightly campaign.

But - hey, sometimes treading light doesn't count, like when you're at the cottage (looks like maybe Sable? or Port Elgin?) and after a few beers and there're some girls... :teeth:

Hey - where're the girls? If there were girls the pic would be a shoe-in.

We all seem to have some mixed emotions about that pic... and I understand both sides of the thought.

Serge, to make things easier on us all, what else do you have for us??

Ok i dont see the problem here. Its Sauble beach open to everyone. If you have been there you would know that you have no choice about driving in the water because its running across the beach.
If you have nothing good to say don't say anything at all.

Serge, check your PM's.

As I mentioned, you cant tell that that was your only option, we have to look at the image as if we are the eyes of someone from outside of the club looking in. If the image were to win TOTM, it will be on our homepage.

That's the point. It's speculation, as we don't know the locale. Not saying there's any wrongdoing here.

The only issue is, if someone perusing our board sees that picture, it doesn't really look like a "Tread Lightly" kind of shot. Believe me, there is all kinds of traffic, from lots of guests, and we don't know who those people might be. We don't want to end up being "that club" that goes against OF4WD.

Given the explanation, I personally don't see a problem with it, if that was the way to get where you were going.

I have done more damage to the tread-lightly philosophy wearing flip-flops...If anybody from outside the club complains about damage being cause in this pic, then they genuinely need to have their head examined.

Seriously, I understand the need to look good to the outside world, but as a bunch of goons with a common love of things with wheels, we need to support one another a little more. Getting called out in public rather than starting out at the PM level doesn't exactly encourage participation. Besides, I barely see members on this site any more, let alone outsiders.

...just my $0.02, but feel free to let the flaming begin,

You have a point there Wayne, and you're right that it didn't do any damage. However, given what's gone on with OF4WD in the past, it's tough to say what they'd think.

Though, why you think there's no members on here, let alone guests, I don't quite understand.

If the plan is to discuss this issue on the board, then lets get it on, in another thread.

Personally, I thought that it looked like he was going through a big puddle, not a stream or a river of any kind.

It's a pretentious issue, that is for sure, but I think that if a discussion takes place, we should split the topic off instead of doing it in the TOTM thread...

Just my $0.02 cents... :teeth:

Which by the way, is worth less today then it was 2 weeks ago...

Done. We have a new topic here, as I've split out the discussion.

Let's see what the consensus is here. We don't want to censor too much, as that takes the fun away, but we do have to be careful. It's a fine line, and a tough one to walk straight. I am unsure where this photo falls, and to be honest, I don't see a major problem with it, but I can see the other side.

Romping through water at the beach is done at a lot of beaches - excluding areas marked as "sensitive". With this in mind I have no concern with the shot. In addition it was explained that this is the only option when driving at this beach.

Since we are a club that does follow the "tread lightly" philosophy I suspect that this was done following the rules of the beach and it was not a tromping all over any sensitive sections.

A similar question could have been raised about the pic of my truck or in fact any off-roading pic. How do we know my pic wasn't taken at some protected wet land or others weren't rough shodding over protected land?

It is a good point to raise the question just in case. But the answer is simple and quickly answered.

I say keep the pic

BTW if we feel the need to appease any outside stumblers perhaps we could add a caption to the TOTM pic? Something simple like location.

I know the beach in question and this would be on the Saugeen Reserve side and is quite accepted, and almost unavoidable. I say let it fly and damn be he who first cries hold.

The club has declared in no uncertain terms that we support tread lightly, so barring any blatant disregard for this, we should trust our members and fear not the rath of those that don't know.

Considering that I have done this as well at Sauble a # of times, I know that it is not only legal but 'accepted'

That said, from a club image point of view I can understand Pezzy and Simon's point. OF4WD is trying real hard to improve the image of our little hobby here, and it is not so much our opinion that counts. We know the rules, we know what is acceptable. We follow the rules, and we behave in an acceptable manner. This is clear from the discussion here, the problem is the visitors (as Simon call 'em) the 'uneducated' as it were who just float in for a few minutes and come to an uninformed opinion.

They are the dangerous ones.

1st impressions were that it was a cottage lake, and think of the oil and/or grease that would be introduced into the environment by doing that.

2nd impression was why the person didn't drive around the back on the sand:

Image

3rd impression after reading everyone's opions is it's probably not a bad thing if it's just water on the beach..

I'd like the pic a lot more if there were girls. Preferably with skimpy little bikinis or something akin.

Hey - can we start up a girl of the month thread. Ok, maybe not a GOTM thing, but how but a girl with my truck thread? Now there's a comp! Screw this naggin over a truck in water, let's move on and get a real thread! GWMT!!!!

Then put a disclaimer under the truck of the month pic, that declares all photos posted are tread lightly friendly, and club approved. Most of the tourists that come here will be enthusiast themselves, and although they may not have a clue as to tread lightly, may learn something new and understand why clubs exist. The ones that are not enthusiasts are simply armchair war mongers and will pick a fight no matter what the case :rasp: . I agree as a club we need to be cognizant of that which we post, and being a club member, strongly feel that our members support and agree with the tread lightly policy. Thus being said, I don't feel interesting photos need by scrutinized too closely. If we aren't actually practicing as individuals, what we preach as a club, then it is all for not  . I know our crazy Russian Friend is a responsible wheeler, as are the other members of this fine club, and this is starting to wreak of sdrd 17. Don't mind me, I am in a pissy mood this evening, but feel our members should scrutinize themselves and not be subject to CENSORSHIP, 'cause dat sucks…lol ;)

Serge, I love the photo, post it up.
