Re: 2nd Gen - Direct control over TC shifting

Now that I can reflect on the schematic I see a number of improvements that could be made relatively easily but I am not going to bother. If this can help someone out or serve as a starting point for someone else to continue the effort I am happy to volunteer it. I'll call on you in a few years. My...

Re: NEED HELP - recovery of 2 vehicles

Glad to hear you made it out (better off for it?). A perfect storm of circumstances (work, health, ball joints, tierod ends) kept me from, at least, offering you my body wait a second this isn't sounding right, what I mean is that I live not even 2 hours away and should have been there to help, but...

Re: NEED HELP - recovery of 2 vehicles

You know it. Will be looking to add more gear but also learning how to use it correctly for future recoveries.

All said and done, was a great learning experience.

Re: NEED HELP - recovery of 2 vehicles

Hi everyone, sorry for the delayed reply. We were out yesterday afternoon/evening getting the trucks out.

We were able to recover both vehicles quite easily using a highlift thanks to JAS on this forum. Awesome & fun guy, super knowledgeable.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

NEED HELP - recovery of 2 vehicles

I am reaching out to anyone in the Nissan community who can offer support in a time of need. While wheeling in the Carnarvon area, myself along with a friend managed to get both our vehicles stuck in water/mud. Thankfully all occupants made it home safe tonight with the help of some very generous lo...

Re: wheel hubs...

Naw, that can't be it. That would require that they have a basic understanding of what 4wd is.

Prob more for those white collar types who believe to be "handy" yet don't want to get their hands dirty. :P

Re: wheel hubs...

Hey bud, never feel bad about giving advice that turns out to be application specific. So long as it doesn't cause a hazard, it's a learning experience for everyone. A discussion point if nothing else. No worries here. I can see how the conversation has evolved as a result of my comment. Lots of in...

Re: wheel hubs...

Actually on the Xterra the CV's don't rotate. The hubs, auto or manual, do their job as well as the t-case disconnects the front drivetrain; it's the Pathfinder that didn't have disengaging hubs, so that helped them save some mpg's, but on the Xterra it shouldn't make a difference. Guess that's wha...

Re: wheel hubs...

Another benefit of manual hubs is better fuel economy due to the front CVs and diff not rotating when in 2WD.

Don't think anyone mentioned this. Sorry if I am being redundant.

Re: Frame Rot Prevention

Krown's the way to go. It's a yearly application which can get costly but it makes a difference with rust prevention. The liquid gets into the panels forcing any moisture out. Apparently this is the best time of year to do it... temperature hovering around 0 degrees and cars being moist with salty w...

Ordered HD clutch kit from Marlin Crawler along with short shifter. New shifter & transfer case knobs on their way along with Grant steering wheel. Xmas in March.

Now waiting on warmer weather to start taking the clutch apart.

I know its not in your area but try Hot Rod Scott's in Etobicoke. Not sure if you're ever in that area.

I recently had them install a complete custom exhaust from scratch. They did a wicked job.

Re: Seat Heater Switches

I didn't think you were driving the 4runner in the winter. You would be correct. I store it come Novemberish. I might end up meeting up with my parents in Kingston the second weekend in March, so I could always arrange to get them to bring them up for me That would be great. If/when the time comes,...

Re: Seat Heater Switches

I noticed those this morning as well. Seem a bit pricey for rocker switches that should cost no more than $5 each. Thanks for the link though. I'll keep these in mind.

As of this morning's commute, switches seemed to work ok. Not the greatest quality IMO.

Re: Seat Heater Switches

They are aftermarket seat heaters which were installed by the dealer at time of purchase. They would prob still be under warranty but for the cost of the switches would just be easier for me to switch them out. Also, I lifted the centre console and the job these guys did on a brand new vehicle was p...
