Re: Getting raped by mechanic: need input

A happier update (for a change): he called yesterday to note that indeed he installed the T-bars wrong. He babbled something about how the mark from the stock T-bar doesn't work with the new ones and how this is "all custom installation" but apparently I now have 5" clearance between ...

Re: Getting raped by mechanic: need input

Latest news: I went to collect the truck last night only to find that the entire front end is totally bottomed out. The mechanic says it's because the truck doesn't have coils and everything depends on the torsion bars (Sway-Away product) and apparently "they are not good enough". Short of...

I didn't "tell" him anything aside from "I'm coming over asap - and we are sorting this out!"

Re: Getting raped by mechanic: need input

Thanks, all. Just came back from his shop. With the taxes in, he came down to $2762.66 - which is a far cry from the initial quote over the phone. And it looks like I'm getting the truck back tomorrow morning. Too bad I can't make the Adventure Weekend (lending the truck to my brother to take his ki...

Getting raped by mechanic: need input

Seeking "Nissan suggested labour time" advice please As per my previous post, the shop I took my truck to (now 3 weeks later) just called me to say they're almost finished with the work. They also quoted me the costs - to date - for LABOUR ONLY (with tax) for what was done. Consider that ...

I've had mine on since 2005 and never hit the knob on anything. Don't worry about it.

Re: Need a lead on torsion bars and UCAs

Final tally-up: just ordered $972 USD worth of shocks and TBs from 4x4, they should arrive by UPS next week Tuesday. So the overall list of parts being replaced is something like this: - upper control arms (Nissan) - lower control arms (Nissan) - torsion bars (4x4parts) - tie bar adjustors (4x4parts...

Need a lead on torsion bars and UCAs

Hey all, Just got a call from my mechanic informing me that the simple alignment went awry because of seized torsion bars and damaged UCAs. He says the only way to get this "fixed" is to break the torsion bars, but they're a "dealer only item" and will run me up some mega bucks. ...

Re: Need a sand-blaster & powder coater

For anyone in the Ottawa area, RLD Industries is a great place for powder coating. They have done both my front and rear bumpers, and I have been nothing but ecstatic with the results from them. I'd happily drive to there again (and spend the night, hit the Clock Tower or the Black Oak, or the Arro...

Need a sand-blaster & powder coater

Hi all, does anyone know of a good joint that can sandblast the paint and rust off my sliders - and then powder-coat (or paint & bake) them? I'm in far east Scarborough, but am willing to travel for the right shop... Please PM me or email me at niko1@me.com, it's a bit faster than trying to trac...

Re: Can't shift into gears - but once in gear, it pulls fine

OK, thanks all for the replies. I have ordered a LUK clutch kit ($329) on the recommendation of a friend of my brother's (who runs a Mr. Transmission shop) and was given a $660 estimate for labour (before taxes) to have it installed by the shop that the truck is at right now. Hope it all works out a...

Re: Can't shift into gears - but once in gear, it pulls fine

OK, so the slave cylinder thing failed: the mechanic replaced it (no effect on the shifting) and then he said he "adjusted the pedal" which also had no effect. He's telling me he has to change the clutch, to the tune of $365 for the kit plus 9hrs of labour. Grand total after taxes would be...

Re: Can't shift into gears - but once in gear, it pulls fine

If it was me , get a second mechanic to look at it. See if they can take it for a test drive until they are sure of the problem. Hopefully at no charge to you. Thanks - the guy went for a spin, with me in the truck, and the conditions were EXACTLY as described. This is where he concluded that it co...

Can't shift into gears - but once in gear, it pulls fine

.. so can it still be the clutch, I wonder? I lent my truck to my brother for a weekend, and he said that as he got off the highway (he lives in Orangeville, and was returning my truck in Scarborough), he tried to down-shift but the stick wouldn't come out of gear. What's worse, he couldn't get it i...

...if you need to borrow a utility trailer next weekend for the move let me know. Much appreciated, thanks - we've got it covered for now. The "REAL" move (main furniture pieces) will take place on the 17th, and for that we rented a 26ft truck from U-Haul. However, if anyone wishes to len...

Re: NEED MAJOR HELP: braking system is SOL

Simon, you're a GOD: the place in Mississauga had the unit in stock (as listed) and they're shipping it to Scarborough Nissan in the morning - which means I'll have my truck back by 5pm tomorrow afternoon. Phew...... Thanks a million!!

NEED MAJOR HELP: braking system is SOL

Hey, all. This could potentially have come at a worse time, I suppose... but it's quite bad as it is. The situation is as follows: We just bought a house and are planning the big move over the up-coming long weekend (in a week) using primarily our two Xterra trucks. However, for some unknown reason,...

FF75 - $ 150 (special order)
FF50 - $ 130
Those prices look good - now what? PayPal to you, or will you share the name of the store/supplier?
