Re: Drive train fluids

Here is what I have been using for years...

Front Diff - Amsoil 80W90 (AGL)
Rear Diff - Amsoil 75W90 (SVG)
T-Case - Amsoil ATF (ATF)
Trans - Nissan Matic J

The code in brackets is the Amsoil product code for your reference.

Re: Sad, Regretful, Disappointing News

Hey X-Treme – I have these with the SPC UCA and really like the combo. I am sure you will as well. I do have a few things to point out for your and other’s consideration… I would never deal with PRG ever again! I ordered these at the extended length with 700# coils. After about 4 x the quoted lead t...

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

Great that the spacers worked for you. Did you use my whole coil-over or did you use the spacers on your coil-overs?

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

Thanks for the info - don't worry about measuring. I am going to assume that you have whatever the extended coil-overs give you with your UCAs.

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

@BR44 That's cool. A bunch of questions for you.... Are you running the 35's at stock width without a Titan Swap? BL + SL with aftermarket UCAs and extended coil-covers? Any gearing changes? Are you still with the R180 diff? Definitely would like to hear your opinion on your setup regarding travel, ...

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

@BigRed44 - I am interested to get your reasons for a body lift - bigger than 33s? What setup are you running? I seem to remember that you have UCAs and upgraded coil-overs but not the other details. @FrontyFlyer - I would really like to get a look at your truck and setup in person. I work in Burlin...

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

A quick and absolute way to figure out how much down travel you can achieve before CBC is to put a jack under any sub-frame component in that quarter of the vehicle, start jacking the vehicle until it is raised to your desired height (say 36" at wheel arch for your example, which is a 1.75"...

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

I can lend you my OEM coil-overs with the spacers already on them. These should be the same as yours ('08 Off-Road). Just throw them on and decide for yourself. The spacer is 1-1/4" in height. The math puts that at 2" lift from where you are starting - 33" in you case.

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

The CBC was unbearable for me after 1.75", would smash on even the tiniest speed bumps. 100% agree and that is at 1.75" at the wheel (not at the coil-over mounting location). Keep in mind that the coil-over has a bunch of preload which means that there are two forces accelerating the whee...

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

I can't answer the specific questions about spring shock combinations and 'what combination is up to what', because there are so many variables, and there are trade-offs with each decision. The best thing is to try it out if you have the ability to take out/work on the coil-overs on your own. Keep w...

Re: Spacers vs Coilovers ... or just springs?

I read through your post a few times and it is not clear to me exactly what you are trying to end up with. Are you looking to get back to stock wheel arch height or are you looking to go even higher? You mention that you want to keep it relatively inexpensive so I am assuming no aftermarket UCA. Whe...

Re: 2nd Gen - Direct control over TC shifting

Thanks for the compliments guys! The order of events went something like this…. Had a cracked windshield replaced – crappy job – which let water in through the passenger A-pillar on torrential downpours. This got my harness wet, had 4WD issues until it dried out, then everything was OK. This was a P...

2nd Gen - Direct control over TC shifting

I have always believed that the myriad of safety systems which Nissan incorporates into allowing me to shift my T-case is a vulnerability for those times when I will need 4X4 the most. The thought of knocking out a wheel speed sensor wire by a hidden branch during a water crossing and losing the abi...

Re: Toronto-Vancouver and Back

Good luck with your trip - I am sure you will have a great time and create everlasting memories. My parents took us on a one month trip out west 30 years ago now. Did both Canada and the US in a 1st gen Chrysler Minivan, no back seat, 2 people slept in the van and two in a $30 three man tent. Canadi...

Re: Kind of a cool story...

That is cool - thanks for sharing. I think the Xterra is a very underrated truck by the general 4x4 community. When I swamped mine last year, with water in everything short of hydro-locking, electronics completely wet, we let the X dry out. After a few tries the X fired up and got me home. When peop...

Re: Coolant Flow Direction / E-fan Install

The way I am reading the service manual I believe the flow of coolant is out of the cylinder heads, top of rad, out the bottom of the rad, into the block.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?

Hey Mike - I know its out of the way for you but Wellwood and Manes in Burlington makes custom leafs. They did a full length leaf replacement for me on my last leaf pack. Since then I broke a leaf (not one they did but one of the originals) and replaced everything with Alcans. I am confident they ca...
