Body lifts on 2nd Gen

Post by Snafu »

Has anyone done a body lift on a second gen X? I am wondering if you need a bracket to relocate the bumper.

The place where I am getting the kit recommends it. It looks like a plate of steel that will lift the bumper. The reason for asking is that the site only supplies the bracket for first gen (as per their stock selection). So either they are providing the first gen version or are making one for the second gen to supply with the 2" kit.

I am looking at the 2" kit (sale price) that does not come with the bracket. The 3" kit is $200 more with the brackets to move the bumpers. Doesn't seem right for two brackets. I am a cheap miser and would rather save the $200 for something else

Just wanted thoughts before hitting the buy option

I've done a 2 inch on my truck yes you do need a relocation bracket for the front bumper the back bumper you can just drill the holes 2 inches lower and it works pretty well.

My truck is a 2015, shouldn't be as bad as older models.

Looking for some help from people who have done it before to save time and headaches.

Put PB Blaster on every nut and bolt you have to remove/loosen starting a couple of weeks before the job and repeat every few days. Made taking my leafs out so much easier.

I am also on the other side of TO. Before I do my 2" lift I must install sliders or my wife will kill me.

I know 1-2 of the Ottawa guys would help, but is that the easiest/safest option when others that have done it are around?? :squeam:

Where did you get your kit Bigred? Did you need a steering extension?

Hahaha Ron, good excuse!

Yea atleast 2 of us Ottawa folks volunteered to help , i have a garage and tools , what i don't have is the experience on the 2nd Gen , so it would be nice to have someone who knows a little more what they are doing than me. i can wing it with the best of them but i don't wanna screw up a body lift :P

I don't think there is any extension required on the steering. There are some things under the hood that have to be moved down. If you looked under the hood of BigRed's truck you would see. I think they were the A/C lines that you unbolt and they moved down the firewall. There might be some other things too that BigRed can advise on.

Now if I had the sliders already then I could do the install and pass along tips plus pics.

No steering extention needed but no matter who you buy your kit from you will need to extend the upper rad hose. the kit from AC gives provisions to move the rad down with the engine but most keep it in stock location which raises it 2 inches helps keep mud and other stuff out of it. go on the newx.org and look for the instrusctions by ROOK it is the best set of instructions i have seen. yes you need to relocate the a/c lines a little one side dropps 2 inches the other doesn't so it is now angled. you will also need to drop the power steering resevoir, and slightly bend some brake lines( not much just a gentle bend to them) I did mine in a weekend by my self i recomend that when you do it do not torque any of the body bolts until you have changed all of them. the instructions say one side at a time and torque when done but this poses a problem if the body shifts. any other questions go ahead and ask.

Cool thanks for the info. I definitely bookmarked Rook's install.

Did you have to make a new bracket for the power steering? I know some people move it for dual battery setups, so maybe this is a good time for this.
