X virgin but experienced Nissan lover
New to the Xterra scene but have been involved with Nissans for a while. I used to drive a lifted 92 XJ Laredo but I figured it was time to move on. I have recently purchased a 2001 Xterra SE 5Spd and am excited to rock it. I'm new to the Xterra's but I've been working on Nissans for a while. I also own a highly modded 99 maxima SE 5spd as my show car.
Any advice for a virigin?

Re: X virgin but experienced Nissan lover
Advice, huh?
1) Although google is really easy, it's easier to ask Simon as he does all the work for you;
2) Your truck is a lumbering beast. A good way to watch the fuel display move is to drive fast and/or drag a boat across the province as a favour for a friend;
3) You'll never get better mileage out of it - and although posting a question on fuel economy will get you a few laughs, it might encourage someone to get you to waste $ on a whirly-twirly-vulcanator for the throttle body, which won't work, on the idea that, "Let's use Bohead as the test subject, and we'll do some real research into this fuel saving device."
4) Spring time will be the next trail run;
5) AW is awesome;
6) A 33" tire is as big as you can go on the Gen 1 trucks;
7) The people here are really nice, with the exception of Snafu. We ignore Snafu.
Welcome
Scott

Welcome from one maxima owner to another. Spend some time on here and you'll pick up the mods pretty quick.
If you are into trails, first mods include ditching the mud-flaps and flimsy side-steps. A good set of tires and some under-body protection will go a long way...

first off, increase the credit limit on your credit cards, you'll need the extra buying power.
Enjoy the slippery slop knows as mods......you start with one thing, next thing you know your truck is a different beast all together.
WELCOME !!

Everyone here's pretty cool, except Scotto and Snafu. Snafu, as Scotto said, we ignore. And Scotto we ignore, unless he's speaking about ignoring Snafu.

I'm sure we can get 35's under there just by cranking the t-bars and with a good cold air intake, an electric fan turbo charger and hydrogen generator we should be able to get 26 mpg no problem. Have you picked up a flux capacitor yet? That would be my first mod.

HAHA!
You guys are hilarious.
I'm not too worried about gas mileage as I was originaly driving an I6 4.0L HO Lifted Cherokee on 31s. Gas? What da heck is that?
All the excess modding goes into the maxima. I'm currently building a custom turbo kit and its sucking alllll of my money so the xterra will just be my grocery getter.
I'll probably sqeeze some 31s but that will be the extent. Maybe a small SL but nothing too will and crazy.
Who are the common parts suppliers in the hood? I think I will be needing to replace the clutch soon as its starting to get a little soft.
Oh, and thanks for the advice, I'll ignore Snafu and Scotto too....and I'll keep an eye open for a cheap flux capacitor to help save my gas mileage by running on plutonium!

Re: X virgin but experienced Nissan lover
For your clutch - start a thread in problems/fixes.
There are some really good clutches out there that are a dream, and you'll love. I've got the dual-friction center force in mine, and really like it (the wife is a bit skeptical, as it made the clutch pedal pretty heavy, but I like it...)
Again - welcome!

Oh - and ignore how I'm ignored. The people around here love me
