Another new guy!
Hello everyone,
I am very glad to be a part of your site and I am hoping to meet some of you in the near future. A bit about me. I have recently purchased an Xterra and because I'm filthy rich I decided to buy a well used 2002 SE . I will be putting a lift, tires, armour and bumpers on it in the near future once I have worked out some of the bugs I have discovered. I have been a long time Toyota/Land Cruiser fan however, I wanted something newer that had some creature comforts. I have always liked the Xterra and I'm glad that I finally bought one. I have been a spectator in your site for awhile now and it was your club that was the deciding factor in buying an Xterra. The members in your club seem to all be respectful and helpful with one another which I think is very cool. Giving back to the community and taking care of one another is a great thing that not all clubs will do. I was born and raised in the Hammer and I am very much a city guy but I do enjoy getting out of the city limits from time to time.
I don't know if this is the right time or place but I have a tech question that's killing me to ask. If anyone can point me in the right direction in the website or if they know the answer I would greatly appreciate the input. I have had the truck now for approx 3 weeks. It is an automatic and when I pull away slowly like in a parking lot or side street the transmission revs up to 2500-3000 rpm's before it shifts into 3rd. But if I pull away under harder acceleration it doesn't do it at all. I've checked the fluid level and the fluid looks clean. Any suggestions?
I truly hope to meet you soon and put some faces to the log in names. I've read so much of your forum posts that I think I've got a good idea of the different personalities in the club. Very funny posts on the "Halton taxi" by the way and "Medic" had some really interesting things to say. I've written far too much so I'll just leave by saying "thanks" and I appreciate everyone's efforts especially as a "new guy".
Later.

Hey... Welcome to CNTC. I totally agree that its a great site, great club... great people. I join CNTC for the same reason that you just said. You gonna love it here!!!
I believe there'll be a meet sometime soon, but the location is still to be decided upon. I hope to meet you soon. I am still a newbie too, only joined this club in Feb.
Regarding your technical question, I'm sure someone will reply you in no time. Just sit back and wait... I don't know much about xterra as I'm driving the pathy right now.

Thanks dududuckling!
It's good to know that there are others who know the pain and anguish of being the new guy . I'm hoping to attend the next meet pending my schedule with that little thing called "work" given that I did not win the 26million on the weekend

Re: Another new guy!
Hey there!!! Welcome.
Tech question. That's a good one, but 2500 doesn't sound high to me. I'm not an auto guy, and haven't even driven an auto X, but manually, I'm shifting at about 2500-3000. That's where the torque band is... any lower and the truck gets pretty sluggish, and if your knock sensor is crapped out (more than likely) you don't want it revving too low on acceleration. Under hard acceleration it also sounds normal to me, as the torque limiter will be applying as much power thru the transmission as possible. Basically, you're telling the truck to go hard. My Jeep does this (3 speed auto), and a few other cars I have driven - they needed me to sort of kick the gas to switch the gear.
I don't think it's an issue... But if you're still at odds with it, check the throttle position sensor - maybe it's being a bit finicky.

Re: Another new guy!
Hey everyone thanks for the warm welcome!
And to new4x4'r: I'd love to hit some spots as soon as I get the bugs ironed out in my truck. There are several "use at your own risk" roads between Stoney Creek mountain and Smithville which you probably already know about. And don't worry about the police I haven't seen one yet that is willing to swamp their Crown Vic And the funny thing is we're planning on moving to the Grimsby area in the next year - bye bye crackheads!
And Scotto, thanks for the reply. I will definitely look at that. I know it's kinda difficult to explain my issue and it doesn't even sound like an issue but when it revs to 2500 - 3000rpm's between 2nd and 3rd that is in comparison to the other shifts that don't have any reving between shifts at all so it's very noticeable. This is at very low acceleration only. I'm hoping this is normal but I'm really not sure I'll post my issue in the proper area so as not to rock this boat!
Thanks again all.

Re: Another new guy!
I'm actually on the Hill above Grimsby by the new AgroTurf John Deer Dealership... Lots of fun (looking) "roads". I haven't went out yet to try any. But Thursday my new tires come in.. so Thursday night I'll be out all night effin around on the unused roads.
