Every time I see one of these, I think it's a really cool idea, but I wonder how actually useful it is.

I mean for me, I camp like once or twice a year tops, and I already have a tent, so it's not really worth it for MY purposes.

How often do you need to camp with the trunk of your truck open like that?

I had one of those with the X (thanks to one of SOXC's show & shine!) and I must say I have mixed opinions about it.

I used to sleep in the truck anyways, so I found it awesome for weekend trips where there is no wheeling involved. It gives you so much more room for all your gear, and you can set up a mini kitchen or a nice seating area in the tent and still sleep in the truck. You can use it for storage of you gear and shelter in case of bad weather.

The downside is that the truck isn't going anywhere once the tent is attached to it. You can release the straps and drive away, but it leaves a huge opening on the side of the tent where the truck was. And if you go wheeling, setting up a tent like this on a muddy truck isn't really the best thing for your paint job and it isn't fun either to pack up a muddy tent at the end of the trip.

So it's a vrey good product, but as everything else it depends what kind of use you want out of it...

To lift, or not to lift? What a stupid question...

Every time!

If you use an electric fridge you find that you have your trunk open all the time. I may at one point find a tarp that would cover the hatch, but I wouldn't want to go in and out of an SUV tent all the time to get to the fridge.

Lol Rev... I open and close my hatch all the time, but when I'm out camping, I don't leave it open...

And I had the same thought as Spider about using the tent after wheeling, if you are all muddy (which you should be  ), the last thing you want to do is pitch a tent using the dirty ass of your truck...

:teeth:

I still think they are cool, but maybe not overly practical.

You underestimate how often I visit the fridge my friend. I'd wear out the hatch!

I have this one.

http://www.sportzbynapier.com/product.h ... uct_num=57

It's nice to sleep in the truck and have my legs hang out the back (i am 6'4") but both times i used it this year it rained . and it did not perform that well. The connection between the truck and the tent leaked. also on the 05-10 xterras there is a rear step built into the rear bumper that does not allow for the tightest fit.

I think next time I set it up ill use a tarp over the rear of the truck and the connection with the tent .
