Wrangler Territory / Revo 2 / Nokian WRG2 ???

Post by gspaldin »

I've finally worn out the OEM BFG Long Trail T/A tires on my Frontier. Would like to get a more agressive tire that is good in snow. I'm tired of my ABS kicking in when tires should grab. I've read some of the forum's comments on the (winter rated) Territory and it sounds worth a try at the price. But my size is 265/70/R16 and the closest size they come in is 265/75/R16. Will this fit without rubbing anything? How much would it throw out my spedo? Is this agressive tread going to affect my mileage much?
Also considering (winter rated) Nokian WR G2, and the Revo 2 doesn't sound bad even though it lacks winter rating. Anyone had experience with these?

If you can get the Territory for 25% off, it's a good tire. One of mine arrived with a punctured sidewall, and I punctured another sidewall when I got dinged by a transport truck. Otherwise awesome in snow and even decent in icy conditions. Don't overlook the BFG A/Ts, not the best on ice, but a great tire overall.

I was a little surprised when I calculated that going from a 70 to a 75 series adds a whole inch to the diameter, so I wouldn't want to comment on fitment (but I doubt they would rub!)

What model is the Frontier: XE, SE, Nismo or LE?

I doubt you'll run into any trouble but it would be a good excuse for a leveling kit or mini-lift.

PRG Frontier Basic Package*
ICON Coil-Over Shock Kit *

If you wanted to fit 285/75R16 ... just saying

*I would add/include the PRG rear shackles

Added - 285/75R16s on stock wheels

Note - 265/75R16 is the stock tire size on the Nismo Off-Road trucks so you shouldn't have any issues. :geek:

265 70 16 = 30.61"

265 75 16 = 31.65"
255 75 16 = 31.06"
275 70 16 = 31.16

if that helps...

Did it take 4 years to wear out your BFG Long Trails?

Also since Nissan has a habit of calibrating the speedo for the largest wheel diameter offered on the vehicle your speedo should read accurately with the 265/75R16 "Nismo sized" tires.

Ran the Revo 2 for 2 years on a Tacoma; had the original Revos on an Xterra. No issues with the Revo 2 in the deep snow or in icy conditions, no hydroplaning in water, pretty good in the muck. Also relatively quiet on the highway. The only thing I noticed was the tread wear was more than the original Revos at about the same kms. Perhaps a little softer? Anyways, great tire. Not sure if you've considered the BFG ATs or Procomp ATs.

The BFG ATs wear well, I have 80,000 - 90,000 km on my 305/65R18s and I would say they have a another winter in them if I can stay off them this summer. Probably 40% remaining but I consider 30% (or better) worn out for my use.

I run the territory's and they're not that great in the snow....as far as field snow goes anyway. On road snow they work quite well , which is where I guess 95% of your winter driving will be! They are also wearing better than I thought they would, 25k and still roughly half left. In the mud they pack up but in the rocks they work as good as any higher priced tires. Oh yeah they're noisy if you care! I don't, sounds better than the crap on the radio these days anyway.
