Fun times! Removed the front and rear driveshafts from Agent Orange to take to More Ron's for the weekend. Task, replace worn U Joints on both shafts. The question is, will we be able to re-install them

Advanced the timing 2 degrees on Friday. Two reasons for the change: additional low end grunt, and exhaust note.

The small change isn't precipitable when unloaded, however hauling ~7,500 lbs on 35's it is! The truck holds 90kph in 4th more readily, 90kph is the shift point between 3rd and 4th when in Tow Haul Mode. It also wants to accelerate when driving over 100kph in 4th, I keep having to lift, or feather the accelerator, to keep from creeping over 110kph.

The exhaust note did change slightly, a little smoother but the CIS sound persists, it may be less frequent and sharper sounding now. The change in sound wasn't as dramatic as advancing the distributor on the older V8s, likely the difference in continuously variable timing and static timing.

The downside to advancing timing is the potential of going to far resulting in Pinging. I haven't heard any, but I can't say I know what to listen for or if I could here it over the exhaust.

Nice! CIS sound? Pinging hopefully would be detected by the Knock sensor and it would retard your timing, no? Or is a ping too sensitive for the KS?

CIS = Card In Spoke sound. Its a common way to describe the snapping sound Titan's make with modified exhaust systems. A resonator should smooth it out, but I haven't picked one up yet.

I don't know if it would detected pinging. I guess a ping and a knock is the same idea so it should detect it. But honestly I don't know if there is knock detection on the truck.

Edit - yes the VK56 has two sensors, see the red arrows in this picture from clubtitan.org

Try some 91 or 94 gas and see if the sound goes away and/or the truck performs better.

Interesting on the CIS sound. I have it with the headers. Under load between 2300-2700 RPM.

I attribute it to the stock muffler. Straight pipes. Hate it. Well. Not hate. It's just annoying.

Running 91 octane on two tunes (performance, and towing) setup for 91. Might try 93 if I see it somewhere.

Did a torque stall, or brake stand without the tire spin, with the truck cold. No knock/ping. I think it's something in the suspension, there's a good chance a couple of bits are loose in the front.

A Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator is supposed to be the answer. I haven't gotten around to it yet.

So I take it that the Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator replaces your muffler.

No, in addition to the muffler. Some install downstream of the muffler, others upstream, and now and then both.

Yes, but only for the country music. There's only two kinds of music, country and western. Yeehaaa!
