Is My Truck F-O-R-D?
I have an 05X that has served me well for 300,000 Ks. I had the SMOD issue and have replaced the rad. Now I am faced with replacing the transmission at a cost of $5000. The Extended warranty for SMOD only covers up to 10 years or 100,000 miles, so I'm not eligible for that. What is your opinion? Is there much life left in this old baby or should I junk it. Is anyone on here running a truck with more mileage than that? The engine has been serviced regularly and still runs like a top. Any advice would be appreciated by this almost original SOXC member.

$5000? Is that for a new transmission? If not, it sounds high to me. Maybe you could get a rebuilt one cheaper?

A friend of a friend owns a good transmission shop in Belleville. I'll get his contact information for you.

Tough one, don't fix and the residual value is low. Fix and you the repair cost is a large chunk of what the fixed truck is worth. How is the body/paint/rust? If the body is very good, the undercarriage brake/fuel lines, A/C are good, and you want to drive it another couple years min, it might be worth it.

You can go rebuild or used route and keep costs way down.
With that mileage IMO I would go used.

Thanks The body is OK, no rust, it has a new rad, the fuel gauge sensor has been replaced. The cheapest I could get a rebuilt here in Trenton is $3,500 plus $1,000 to put it in. I'll try the Kingston guy. Meanwhile the truck is running fine. Every once in a while it slips into a limp home mode high gear and stays there until you turn the key off and on.

That sounds more like a stuck solenoid than a trashed transmission. Is the fluid burnt at all?
