Steering Leak

Post by BigRed44 »

So another problem crept up on me recently. i have a steering leak and need some advice. the leak happens from the driverside boot on the rack. you squeeze the boot and power steering fluid comes out a hole in the boot. the advice i need is if this is just a leak in the boot and having fluid in there is normal or if i need to replace the entire rack? any info will be helpful thanks.

The boot is not a pressure seal. I think the boot is just a dust cover to keep the cylinder end clean as it goes in and out of its shaft seal. I think you'll need a new/rebuilt rack. At least this is what happened on my GM. Same symptoms.

I hope the 07 are not going to be known for blown seals on the rack :o

Can the seals be replaced even if you can find them or better off getting another?

New rack.

Never checked to see if seals were available separate.

How quickly is it loosing fluid? I'm under the impression that most/all Nissan's seep a little.

The rack in my V70 went from dry to pouring out in the less than one oil change interval.

Call around for a good price on a rebuilt unit. I hope they are cheaper than my Envoy rack @$635
