Truck Rolls When Parked In Gear

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

I've been noticing lately that I can't park my truck on even a slight incline. My parking brake hasn't worked since about last year and being gone, I haven't been around to check it, so I spent the year parking the truck in 1st gear (5-speed). Now I'm noticing that I can't. She rolls ever so slightly forward. I don't think that my clutch is at all slipping, but does that mean something's going on with my motor and I'm losing compression?

I could only see that or the clutch slipping. But if it slipped that easy I would think you'd notice while driving. You should compression test it. Hopefully it doesn't end up like mine.

Indeed. I don`t notice anything while driving, or even while towing the trailer. It should be really obvious I'd think, but I've never had a slipping clutch before. Ya, good idea, I'll see about getting it compression tested while I'm in Niagara over Xmas

Had an old BMW that the clutch would let it slip slowly when parked... It didn't slip while driving so badly that you would notice unless you were wide open. When it let the car start slipping visibility when parked... Man did you ever notice when driving.

Do the movements feel kind of sudden? When I used to park in a gear other than 1st there wasn't enough compression to hold it but the movement was junky as the compression would come off one piston and then start to build on another.

I don't feel it slip at all when driving. I tried WOT a few times, but I need to remember to keep my revs low since I'm still running my rigged up rad fan clutch from AW that I haven't fixed yet.

I want to say it's in the motor, but it's ever so slight, but it does give a slight (just slightly more) movement which I would say is indeed when it decompresses.
