Rear Differential Breather

Post by Duanegerous »

My 02 Xterra with C200B rear differential came with breather extension. As per the pic below, the fitting snapped off just beneath the tube clamp. Does anyone know what size fitting I need to get to replace it? I can't seem to find any information about size and thread in the factory service manual or on google searches.

Thanks for the part#. Much appreciated. Now I can go to the dealership and order one on Monday morning.

How/where did you find the part #? I feel bad having to bother people on the forum for info I should be able to find myself if I knew the best sources to search.

Thanks again!

Milton had one in stock when I went to get it. Must be common enough problem.

I wonder if the hose was still good on the trailer...Bender added a long one on it years ago

I don't remember there being a hose, but it was rusted and in pretty bad shape. I was worried it was rusted in but came out easilly.

The older hardbody pickups used the breather with the barb connected to a hose. At some point Nissan changed to a wobble breather like on a pressure cooker. They don't do anything to keep the water out.
We keep them in stock. They are both identical thread. It's a pipe thread, so if your local dealer doesn't have one, you might be able to make something work.

If it's a pipe thread then any brass hose barb from home depot ought to work I'd think. Just match the thread and the hose ID.

I tried to make a pipe thread one work but it is some weird style. The thread was the same as npt I think but the taper was different so it would not sit flush.

It was probably a BSPT thread then. If so, you need something like this: Imagehttp://www.mcmaster.com/#4860k141/=12xfgxq to adapt it to NPT then you could get whatever NPT fitting you wanted.

I remember reading somewhere that the diff breather fitting WAS a funny taper, and what you needed to get to replace it. Don't remember where. Perhaps the dreaded *gulp* clubxterra.org... Maybe Xterranation, which would be much more betterer

The Nissan part is readily available from the dealer and cheap. Just order it and pick it up the next day.
