rookies
hello cntc members,my name is the x kid,but you can just call me the kid, because I don't even have a xterra yet.Strange I know, but I love em. So I am preping to hopefully get one.If you would be so kind to answer some questions,or a thousand,I would much appreciate it. I am not a great typer so this takes me a while. So here it goes.Where are all the orange x's ,cause I like that colour even though I am a Leaf fan. What is the concencus of the new x's and the 1st generation.I have driven the two and like them for different reasons. What year did they come come out with the leather heated seats? The wife likes that. Also why do some some have the EXTERRA letters on the lower doors.I like that.

Re: rookies
The atomic orange ones are limited to the year 2002 only. Rare and hard to find.
Gen I vs Gen II: different beasts. Gen I runs from 2000 thru 2004. It has what is called a VG33 engine. +2002 offered a superchrager, and the hood lines are raised for all the Xterras to accomodate the SC, regardless if it was in there. The motor was boosted to 210 HP in 2002. The Gen II came out in 2005 and sports a whole new motor (the VQ40) which has more horsepower (170 in Gen I vs 265 in Gen II). The Gen II has variable valve-timing. More electrical thingies on the Gen II, like an electrical locking rear diff. Much wider than Gen I. Different body styles, the Gen II was a complete face-lift - I like the Gen I more, but that's just me. Some have said the driveline is weaker on the Gen IIs - might just be one year, but there are stories about the rear carrier blowing up. The SE models of the Gen II are equipped with leather (I think).
I don't know about the EXterra letters.
What's the consensus? Hmm. I really like the Gen Is - there's something kinda quirky about them. The Gen IIs are much more refined, have a lot more power, and the rear locker would be a real nice thing to have. You won't find much argument here between which is the better truck, simply because we don't seem to argue or talk about that (the usual disagreement has to do with the Solar Yellow ones, as those of us who have the yellow think it's a gift from God, while others can't see the magnificent beauty of yellow (heathens!)).

Re: rookies
There is also the new 2009 a Gen II V2.0
I personally like the looks of the Gen I V2.0 (round headlights) and the frame and powertrain from the the Gen II.

But they are, in fact, rare and hard to find!
To lift, or not to lift? What a stupid question...

Thanx for all the welcomes.More ?can you bginer off road with these stock specimines.O.k. whats the fist thing to do.a 3" lift + a3" body lift, why not just a 6" lift.Or maybe 3" is fine with bigger tires.Doe any body use them as a daily vehicle even with a little lift.

Re: rookies
Welcome aboard.
I have seen the odd orange around, but prefer the darker burnt orange over the bright orange, yellow just sucks and it would appear the states have far wilder colours available (although they say colors)Unlike Scott I am not even going to attempt the codes thus avoiding admonishments from other members . Regardless, the trucks rock. I prefer the first gens, i just like the look of them, although there are definitely some good improvements on the 2nd gens, and they too look nice armoured and lifted(they still look like a city truck grocery getter to me, even if they are capable). Most of the wheelers here, are using their trucks as daily drivers. The stock ride is quite capable out of the box, but.....one must take care or you will no doubt break Sh....aaaa stuff. . You will hear many opinions on what to add, like your 3 inch lift or BL or PML or, or, or, but I think most will agree that>>>The mud flaps and stock step rails are fragile units and should be removed and stored out of site... The trucks are fun to mod, but the bits are not as readily available as say??? any other vehicle out there. This of course can be frustrating yet makes it more worth while when you do get something done. Either way you go, I imagine you will be happy with your truck, regardless of the colour, as it is not so much the colour as it is the mods that makes it unique and yours. Start slow and enjoy the ride, there is many things you can do to personalize your truck and planning it out is half the fun. Well that and actually getting it done. IMHO ofcourse

Slidders are mounted in 3 spots to your frame and don't move if you land it on something. Factory step rails however, not so much, they have a tendancy to pretzel. Picture surf the web there is lots to see.

Re: rookies
I would figure out what lift you plan on doing first, then figure out rubber. To run 33's, you'll need a BL. 32's and smaller will fit stock and a 3" SL.
And yes for your daily diver question. MAny guys run lifted trucks, my self included.
