I have just purchased a 2006 Xterra Off-Road, so far I love this truck. I am located just outside of Pembroke Ontario (Ottawa Valley). The CNTC came up in google and I have been looking around the wealth of information here and I hope to meet some of you.
:welcome:

Welcome to the club! My parents live in Westmeath, right along the river, so we get up there from time to time for a visit.

We're in Ottawa, so we're close enough!

lol... I was testing the truck out last night. The truck is amazing, not even one hiccup, my parents have a few acres at their house and a few steep drops in the the bush. Mind you the X is a bit modded.

I started wheeling when I bought my 1990 Pathfinder SE: mostly camping, dirt tracks, etc. Sometime in 1996, Nissan had an event called "Camp Pathfinder", it was a weekend gig where they invited interested Pathfinder owners to come out and be taught just how much abuse these vehicles can take.... and it was truly astounding! That was the first time I ever saw a lifted and modified Pathfinder (painted in a giraffe paint scheme, to boot).

The following year, they brought out a demo Xterra on the ride, and everyone was quite interested to see what this thing can do. It was a bit of a let-down, everyone agreed... However, the next year when the Xterra was released to the public, there were some notable revisions made from what we saw in the woods - and about another 2yrs later, as my Pathfinder was slowly dying from acute cancer of the joints and arthritis of the ligaments, I considered getting a 1995 Pathfinder SE but instead found a 2001 Xterra XE for sale, with only 42,000km and a very acceptable price.

I promptly got online to see what I can do to improve the vehicle's stock ride, and acme across the postings by Marty and Pete. For a while I stalked them online, reading about their mods, posting questions via PM (mostly to Pete), and then I came out one time and met Moey and a few others - and was hooked. I wheeled with the SOXC gang till about 2007, but since then I've devoted more time on 2 wheels on my adventure bike, and less time damaging my truck in ruts and mud holes...... but soon enough, I'll make a comeback in a truck about a decade younger, and with proper mods this time. And a dog in tote!

So you got to see what was basically a prototype and a pre-production Xterra? What where they like? What did the first one do wrong and what did they change?

It was grossly under-powered, but it had a substantial clearance (I recall), at least on par with the 90s Pathfinder models. After the first day of wheeling we returned to camp and we got to sit in the Xterra (but not drive it) and we all noted how much more cramped and "uncomfortable" it was, compared to our trucks. I can't recall if there were any aspects from that vehicle model to what we drive [now] but I suspect some of our comments on the cards we filled out might have been taken seriously enough to address....

Hi There - Yahoo search for CNTC having found the Inclinometer app, having just got an Android phone. Great little app, though missing the X-Trail from the fleet ? Had problems logging in, big thanks goes to Pezzy for sorting. :worthy:

I've been following the forum since the SOXC days. I've had a 98 Pathfinder for the last 3 years but it's just basic transportation and it's seen better days so I'll be pulling it off the road in September. I just picked up a 2002 Xterra XE 5 speed manual to replace the Pathfinder, I'm really hyped about having a real truck (sorry, R50 Pathfinder isn't a truck in my mind) and that's why I decided to join the forum.

LOL, I thought that comment might strike a nerve or two. I'm currently driving a 1998 R50 and to be honest it's a good vehicle. The main reason for replacing it is the Ontario Drive Clean program and the 6 DTC codes stored in the ECU... There are many other small issues with the vehicle and I just don't want to spend any more money on it. The power train is perfect (except for rear diff whine) with around 200,000 km on it and remarkably, the strut towers are still solid. I'll be selling it as a parts vehicle on Kijiji in the fall.

Post it here first, the car people, I mean R50 people, may gladly grab it up. Also if you stick enough truck parts to a R50 it can evolve from car to Rig status.
