Doug Thorley Headers

Post by steelcityslicker »

Hey everyone,

I have no idea who has asked or provided info on these headers? It's been such an intermittent topic that I've lost track. So if the following link has already been posted I apologize. If it hasn't then I think it would be great for the members of this club to express interest as we all know it's not easy to come across parts for any 3.3L powered rig. I'm excited to find out how these bad boys turn out and what they will cost.

Let's show them how the Canadians are interested!!!

cool I actually just Installed a set of headers from 4X4parts.com they are stainless and bolted right up (according to the guy who I got to do it they are the best fitting pair of headers that he has ever put on a vehicle). I thought they where the only option out there (took a real long time to find a set). It is nice to see that there is more companies interested in making parts for these motors.

Apparently there is a prototype set on a 2003 X in cali. They were originally supposed to keep the front cats and be a direct bolt on, but that's not how they ended up...
Rugged Rocks wrote:The headers were originally going to be the bolt ons before the pre-cats but doug thorley determined that the headers would to be too short and would crack like the factory ones. for this reason they opted to build a set of headers that remove the pre cats and will not be 50 state legal but we are looking at having them be more cost effective than other sets that are already on the market.
So, looks like they will be similar to the AC ones. They are going to try to offer them at a lower price point but only time will tell once they are officially released.

So did I. Since I will be doing my head gaskets shortly I was thinking of replacing the manifolds with the performance headers.

I'm in the same boat. Patiently waiting for him to put them into production so that I can actually order a set. I'm doing my Headgasket soon as well, so I'm amassing parts for the job.

The mani's have to come off anyways, and my D-side one has been cracked for a while, so I'm doing headers and eliminating the first set of cats.

Hurry the ef up already!!!! :teeth:

I did a head job for a customer a while back. I even installed new stock manifolds. His price came up to $6G's. OUCH!!! Luckily the parts for me will be $200 bucks but the the time I have to put in to the job myself is gonna be a killer.

yeah the parts are relatively inexpensive to do a job like this it is the labor (unless you tackle it yourself) that gets ya. I payed $$450 in labor and that was at a huge cash deal type of thing

WTF, nothing listed for the SC versions... :fist:

Why did I bother getting this verison?

Curious as to when they will actually SHIP. They are only listed as a pre-order at the moment.

I don't see the S/C using different headers....can someone working at a dealership confirm different part numbers for the OEM manifolds on the 02-04 N/A vs S/C? We're not turbo, we have nothing in the FI system that requires anything different on the exhaust side of the truck...If anyone wants to PM me a VIN for an N/A 02-04, I can stop by Nissan tomorrow and get their part numbers

Ceramic coated? Nice! I doubt the free shipping includes Canada...

Free shipping is for contiguous 48 states only, not Canada.

I didn't see anything about the cereamic coating, but I would go for that for the thermogenic benefits in order to get past emissions. It would definitely help keep the heat in for the cats that will be further back them normal.

I wonder if the SC manifold is larger pipes? The need for a tuned exhaust on a squeezed engine isn't the same as for a N/A engine...

This is a reply I received regarding the headers. Sounds like there are still some unknowns (ex. whether something is needed for the CEL).

As with the other headers, the first set of cats will have to go.
Ron,
As far as i know they will be stainless, but i won't know for sure until
the production models are out. These headers will need the first cats to
be removed and are full bolt on installation.
As far as i know there won't be any other changes needed. Right now i
don't know of any dealers in Canada but these will be available through
rugged rocks.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
