After 10 years, maybe Good-bye
Noticed an oil leak under my X, looks like I've got a crack in my transfer case. Might get an estimate, but I have a feeling I'll just look at something new before I start digging a money pit. My X has been bulletproof, but age and kilometers are waving its head.
The real puzzle is whats next, SUV's are limited, no offence to anyone here, but I can't wrap my head around a new X. Semi front runners are between the wranger 4 door and the Fj (although I find the FJ way overpriced)
Seriously thinking of returning to a PU, so its a toss up between a frontier and a canyon/colorado.
Its been lots of fun even though I've more or less fallen off this board . Cheers

Unless you're into lack of comfort, stay away from the Wrangler 4 door. RedRubi on our forums is getting rid of his for exactly that reason.
Too bad you're looking into getting rid of the X. How many K's on it?

man thats too bad about the X..... My causin works at a chevy dealer as well as he drives a colorado. He says they're a great truck much better then what they used to be as sonomas and S10, although he says theyve gotten a lot worse on gas. happy hunting if it comes down to it

If I were you I would go with the frontier if you have had good experiance with your X. They might not be built the same as the newer models but the name they all come from should hold it rep.

I'm sorry to hear that you are getting rid of the X. I'm not sure what sort of SUV you are looking into, but I came across this article on yahoo and I thought it might help.

Re: After 10 years, maybe Good-bye
BTW.. if I do get rid of my X, I might strip it down a touch. Anyone need crossbars (got 3), basket net, mega centre console, seat covers (still in semi good condition after 10 yrs), rims (outlaw II)
As per my norm, most of these are to be given away (I might sell the rims for a token price though)
I'm having a hard time coonvincing myself of my next vehicle... so I'm considering a repair to the X depending on the price, in which case all donations are off.

I still say fix it, and drive it. It's probably still got 7-8 good years in it.
That said, if that center console becomes available, let me know how much you want.

I'd be interested in your front seat covers if you decide to part with it. Mine are toast, so...

Re: After 10 years, maybe Good-bye
So how much do you think you will get for an X with a broken t-case? I don't think it would be worth very much as a trade-in if it isn't really driveable with that crack. If that's the only thing wrong with it at the moment, I think you would be better off to fix it and keep driving.
If you do sell, I would go for another xterra O.R. model or the FJ. A crew cab Nismo Frontier or Toyota Tacoma would be nice too, but they have a rather long wheelbase for my liking. Don't know what's not to like about the newer Xterras? They have a great v6, lots of room inside, electric locker, all the electric gizmos you could ever want, and they look pretty good too (not the 2010 model, but the ones without the bigger grille). I think the FJ has a better rear suspension design, but they are pretty competitively priced between each other.
I've sworn myself off any GM product now that the government is a shareholder. I'd buy a Ford before any GM regardless how nice it is. It's my way of telling the government I'm not pleased with the way they've been spending my tax money.

Re: After 10 years, maybe Good-bye
Guess its official, Monday I'll be in a GMC Canyon xtended cab (poseur offroad model)
A pick-up won out due to convience, (the wranger is no xterra space wise) Look wise, the gmc was ahead of the Frontier and to my surprise, rode alot better, we're not talking offroad. With all the added discounts, it made it alot easier on the wallet. I think I'll have some fun with the accessories.
I'm emptying out the X... geez did it carry alot of stuff (I'd say close to 200lb of base stock), as far as the forementioned parts list, I'm supposed to go to hog town for an asbestos course, so I'll post then with a complete list when I got the dates... most of which will be traded for coffee and donuts.

Well, this is unfortunate news, though, good for you in a way. A new vehicle (regardless of people's opinions on the make/model) is always fun.
Out of curiosity, how much are they giving you for the X?

I'm a little slow on the uptake and have not been on the board for a looooong time. I'm saddened by the news like the rest of you. Not many of us ol' timers with X's left! I'm glad to hear Jaimie still has his though. I suspect you are still checking in from time to time Don so thought I would say hi and hope you are enjoying the new ride.

Re: After 10 years, maybe Good-bye
Sorry dude, but thats just one guys opinion. I've been driving mine now across Canada and the US, with a TON of off highway for over 110,000 km's since I got it in December of 2006, and its been an awesome truck.Simon wrote:Unless you're into lack of comfort, stay away from the Wrangler 4 door. I say, drive one before making a claim based on one guys thoughts....or even a few guys thoughts, if you still don't like it, then so be it, but at least drive one, on and off road before making a judgement.
Just for the record, I have driven a Pathfinder and an XTerra both on and off road, and I love them, but for me, it's me and my JK Unlimited Rubicon all the way!
Good luck in your search for a new ride.
