I did some oil changes on the vehicles this week and I wanted to change to a larger filter like I did on the Xterra. This shouldn't be a problem but it didn't want to work and decided to piss out oil. After talking with a ex-mechanic military buddy and by chance sending him the right picture he pointed out what looks to be a gouge in the filter gasket seat and sits exactly in the wrong spot for the larger, wider filter. I doubt I did it and just generally unsure how that's possible, but it looks like I'll need to see about changing that piece. Even with it not liking the larger filter I do have some concerns about that longevity even with the OEM-style filter.

This week I was extorted into paying for a rear brake job, first time in my entire life I have had a shop do brakes for me. Of course they messed it up as my parking brake no longer works. When I brought it back they claimed the cables were "stretched". Sure, but it worked before you idiots.

That sucks. You'd think it would also be part of their job to resolve that, considering it's all adjustable that it's their job while doing the brakes to do a complete job. Yep, well it's going to another shop tomorrow to get a 2nd opinion, they are going to take some pictures. So the Yellow Top in the Pathfinder, the main battery is now doing well. It's holding voltage but short on cranking amps and doesn't like the cold. Sadly the battery is 6 months outside the 3 year warranty. I know Optimas have a bad reputation but this is the first one in what, 20 years, that had prematurely failed me. It does hit at the wrong time of the year, but also not surprising as the cold is always the one that shows if your battery is in good health and the -17 temps from the weekend hit it hard. The plan is to run it on my drive to Ontario Sunday and in the meantime order an Odyssey and have it shipped to my parents. It's been many years since I've heard about them and wanted to give them a try, so the time is now.

The one in my X is doing the exact same thing. It's fine as long as the weather doesn't dip below 0 basically. I got it in 2019 so it is almost 6 years old, but was still hoping to get another season out of it. Finally got the brakes sorted on my X. Turns out they were not adjusted correctly and the other thing was since they failed to hook up the parking brake on one side, they tried to adjust it and when the cable was reconnected, it was way too tight and dragging on the drum.

Ya,I know what you mean, especially right before Xmas. I did shop around for the cheapest solution and did consider the CT version but it's actually more expensive. Normally I order through SaskBatt but their online orders were on hold for the Canada Post strike, but also not the bestest of prices like they used to be. I ordered mine through odysseybattery.ca. They're based out of Hamilton. The Group 34 Extreme is "only" $476. Their 34/78 is $527, so still significantly cheaper then the Canadian Tire rebranded version at $582. And unless you need the front connections, just get the regular 34, the specs are identical. Looking at the invoice shipping was $30, which is reasonable. Paying $476+31.22 shipping isn't much more then paying SaskBatt $499.50 with free shipping, but at least I was able to get it shipped. The Odyssey has been impressive this week. My Optima never cranked like this in the cold. Someone may have overtightened or installed the filter with the wrong gasket before you installed it, causing the seating surface to deform. Sometimes you can try gently sanding it with fine-grained sandpaper, but if the damage is severe, it is better to replace the part. Check to see if the oil filter adapter can only be replaced, or is it built into the unit? Some models allow you to replace only this assembly without replacing the entire housing. I had this problem with my Nissan Navara. It broke on me at the most crucial time when I was buying materials to repair the roof. The workers from https://ilroofers.com/ had to wait for me to fix the breakage before I went to get the materials. I actually sold the old radio from the Pathfinder this week. Had it posted on MarketPlace but I had my doubts. I was even looking at the box of it this week, wondering if I should just throw it out. To my surprise a guy messaged me. His radio stopped working, no more audio and was interested but was almost 3 hours away. He was saying that $100 for it wasn't expensive for it and that replacing it with an aftermarket unit was out of his budget and ability. I told him I have no issues shipping and gave him a few estimates. Canada Post was $32 and he gave me $50 for the shipping, so I took it to work and wrapped the parts in bubble wrap. Must of been the timing cause it actually arrived next day. I think he only replaced the amp but he sent me a video later that day of his radio working and a thumbs up. I'm glad it got to be used and knowing the age of the vehicle and the cost/work to do aftermarket, it's why I hung on to it.
I also dented the poop out of my hatch backing into a large, iced snowbank. I'll need to replace it. Kinda interesting situation since I need to remove it to tackle the body rust from the flaking paint at the top part behind the hatch. I was planing to do that this year. It just pissed me off but was an honest error and a snafu. My 90mm TB can be jumpy but also the backup camera was showing deeper as it was pointed into the hole the commercial snowblower made, not realizing the 3ft it was sticking out above it. I braked hard, but not hard enough.
Also my new rear wiper arm came in this week.
