Re: What did you do to your rig today?
I did some oil changes on the vehicles this week and I wanted to change to a larger filter like I did on the Xterra. This shouldn't be a problem but it didn't want to work and decided to piss out oil. After talking with a ex-mechanic military buddy and by chance sending him the right picture he pointed out what looks to be a gouge in the filter gasket seat and sits exactly in the wrong spot for the larger, wider filter. I doubt I did it and just generally unsure how that's possible, but it looks like I'll need to see about changing that piece. Even with it not liking the larger filter I do have some concerns about that longevity even with the OEM-style filter.

That almost looks like someone aggressively spun on the wrong filter or one with no gasket? @Nd4SpdSe

This week I was extorted into paying for a rear brake job, first time in my entire life I have had a shop do brakes for me. Of course they messed it up as my parking brake no longer works. When I brought it back they claimed the cables were "stretched". Sure, but it worked before you idiots.

Ya, I'd agree, especially the way it's curved as well.Adam wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:03 pm That almost looks like someone aggressively spun on the wrong filter or one with no gasket? @Nd4SpdSe
That sucks. You'd think it would also be part of their job to resolve that, considering it's all adjustable that it's their job while doing the brakes to do a complete job. Nice of them to pass the buck, especially considering they couldn't drive the truck before hand.Adam wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:05 pm This week I was extorted into paying for a rear brake job, first time in my entire life I have had a shop do brakes for me. Yep, well it's going to another shop tomorrow to get a 2nd opinion, they are going to take some pictures. If the cables are just unhooked or otherwise fine, I am going to try to get a refund on the work from the other place.Nd4SpdSe wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 10:03 amYa, I'd agree, especially the way it's curved as well.Adam wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:03 pm That almost looks like someone aggressively spun on the wrong filter or one with no gasket? @Nd4SpdSe

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
So the Yellow Top in the Pathfinder, the main battery is now doing well. It's holding voltage but short on cranking amps and doesn't like the cold. Sadly the battery is 6 months outside the 3 year warranty. I know Optimas have a bad reputation but this is the first one in what, 20 years, that had prematurely failed me. It does hit at the wrong time of the year, but also not surprising as the cold is always the one that shows if your battery is in good health and the -17 temps from the weekend hit it hard. The plan is to run it on my drive to Ontario Sunday and in the meantime order an Odyssey and have it shipped to my parents. It's been many years since I've heard about them and wanted to give them a try, so the time is now.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
The one in my X is doing the exact same thing. It's fine as long as the weather doesn't dip below 0 basically. I got it in 2019 so it is almost 6 years old, but was still hoping to get another season out of it. Might have to check Odyssey as well, fark, batteries have gotten expensive.Nd4SpdSe wrote: Thu Dec 12, 2024 9:52 am So the Yellow Top in the Pathfinder, the main battery is now doing well. Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Finally got the brakes sorted on my X. Turns out they were not adjusted correctly and the other thing was since they failed to hook up the parking brake on one side, they tried to adjust it and when the cable was reconnected, it was way too tight and dragging on the drum.
Another reminder of why I do this poop myself.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
I'm gonna game on one of the CT ones once I have enough CT dough to pay for some of it. That is a lot to swallow for a damn battery.Nd4SpdSe wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 9:18 am Over the couse of my Christmas holidays the truck for a new primary battery. This time I went with an Odessey. Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Ya,I know what you mean, especially right before Xmas. I did shop around for the cheapest solution and did consider the CT version but it's actually more expensive. Normally I order through SaskBatt but their online orders were on hold for the Canada Post strike, but also not the bestest of prices like they used to be. I ordered mine through odysseybattery.ca. They're based out of Hamilton. The Group 34 Extreme is "only" $476. Their 34/78 is $527, so still significantly cheaper then the Canadian Tire rebranded version at $582. And unless you need the front connections, just get the regular 34, the specs are identical. You're literally paying more for those connections.Adam wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 8:33 pmI'm gonna game on one of the CT ones once I have enough CT dough to pay for some of it. Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Was It free shipping? I should have told CT to just give me one of those batteries as compensation for the drama they caused me. But I should have almost $200 in CT cash which will ease the pain.Nd4SpdSe wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 8:07 amYa,I know what you mean, especially right before Xmas. In other news, I can hear a wheel bearing starting to go on my car, these Ottawa roads are absolutely terrible on cars.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Looking at the invoice shipping was $30, which is reasonable. Paying $476+31.22 shipping isn't much more then paying SaskBatt $499.50 with free shipping, but at least I was able to get it shipped. However the 34/78 at SaskBatt is the same price as the 34.Adam wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 7:23 amWas It free shipping? Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Nice, I am planning on making a decision this week. Annoying to have to boost the truck when moving it around the driveway.
