Oh no, another (canned ham) trailer Part 2!

Post by xrover »

As a few of you know I developed a slight trailer fetish in the past few years and apparently it has not yet gone away. But I was able to satisfy it again without adding to the crew. I traded my 1985 12/5" Scotty for a 1988 9 1/2' Cadet. It's a very basic fiberglass trailer, no washroom, but stove, sink, etc. They were originally made in Poland and then the FG shells were shipped to Canada where they were put on a galvanized frame and fitted out on the inside. The best decision ever made was the galvanized frame, as mine looks brand new for a 22 year old trailer. They are notoriously lightweight which means no backing up into the perfect spot. It's easier to unhook and push it in by hand (it is fitted with handles). They have a pop up roof which not only adds 6" of height, but gives you the world's largest trailer vent to keep hot air moving out.
And best of all, the don't use those silly, low travel torsion axles, these have real springs and shackles. I may even take it off the beaten path a few times.

P.S. I am selling my 1962 15' Scotty is anyone is interested. $2500 and I rebuilt a number of areas on it. She sleeps 2 adults and 1 child comfortably, plus I have the making of a canvas bunk bed for a 2nd child.

Very nice shape, we bought a roughed up one last year and made it into an ice hut, they are so awesome because they are so light. Looks like a good project.

Nice! Looks like you could do a spring-over conversion, and stick 31's under there...

Probably easier to extend the axles and run the wheels exterior.

Not a bad idea for anti-roll-over stability, but would that really be easier?

Just pop the U-Bolts off, put the axle under the springs, and put the U-bolts back on, man!
On a truck, I'd agree, since you've got brakes and cables and diffs and crap, but on a trailer?

Or am I missing something? :squeam:
