Is there any way of changing the "active topics" that pop up when you log on??

The old site used to only show new/aqctive topics since your last logon, but this one shows all topics in the past 1 day, or 7 days, or even year. Can we add, past hour, or 2 hours, or 12 hours???

Unfortunately, not. This forum software does things a little differently.

Basically, you just have to pay attention to the icon beside the topic to know if there's anything "new to you" in it.

You can click on VIEW NEW POSTS also, which will show any threads with new posts you haven't read.
Once you've read what you want, you can reset it by clicking "mark forums read" on the right hand side.

I don't think so. It's hard coded in the Forum software that way. Even if we could, it would open up a can of worms should we need to update the forum software for security reasons. Their have already been a number of tweaks that might come back to bite the Admins in the arse should an update be required.

It shouldn't matter though since the most recent are always at the top of the list. Just don't look down past the last hour or two. :teeth:

I like the view new posts, because it shows everything that you missed while you were away, as opposed to just the posts that occured within a set period of time.

Essentially, I believe it's the same way the old board used to do it, it just looks a little different that's all.

New is good!

Just a word of advice from one forum admin to another. Keep a copy of all tweaks and hacks you make. Software updates can wipe out all the tweaks and hacks and leaves you struggling to remember how something was done before. It will save you a lot of time.

BTW where's that teacher to correct grammar? :confuse:

Good advice Ron. We've got backups of the forum in plain jane original, with the Carbon (current) theme as it originally came, and of our current (editted) theme as well.

The only "tweak" that might bite us in the ass is the website menu bar across the forums, as that's added by us. Otherwise, I can't really see an issue.

Any tweaks I did, like the forum menu bar, I left comments in the code, I think. All you need to do is search the code for CNTC using Dreamweaver. It will check the code of a whole directory of files without having to open each and every file. Then just apply the same changes to the updated files. Also, you can download just the changed files for an update from phpBB and if you upload one file at a time, you can see if it screws up the forum in any way. If it does, just do a code comparison to see if it was a change you made or the update.

I'll be setting up a test forum in a while for just such an occasion, so that I'm not pissing around with the active forum while testing updates.
