Believe it or not I have actually been working on this quite a bit, but with the shape of the bumper set the progress and hours are hard to spot. I got it all welded and cleaned up and fitted my abs webbing. One of the major challenges was to get the fog light sockets fitted since they have to be aligned such that they point forward and are welded in a location that doesn’t have any reference surfaces that I can use. To do this I mounted them to a scrap piece of wood such that they float relative to the bumper and than I aligned and clamped the wood to hold the socket in place while I welded it to the bumper with a piece of 1 x 1 angle. They are in and solid – another major obstacle behind me. The only thing remaining now are spotting the rad skid plate mounting points and fitting the horizontal abs between the bumper and the body. I will have to get it on the truck to do that.

Here is how it is taking shape now…

Well it was a very busy week with some very late nights, but I was determined to get it dropped off for sandblasting today. I got the skid plate fitted, most of the ABS is fitted, and everything is cleaned up. I dropped it of this morning and will have it back on Monday. Here are a couple of poser shots before I disassembled it…

Well it is on the truck and almost done. Only things remaining are aiming the fog lights and filling in the horizontal space between the bumper and the lights.

I want to thank all the members that have contributed with thoughts and ideas as I was designing and building it – having you guys there to bounce off ideas was a great help and ensured I have considered all the details. There have also been friends that have contributed with a tool here and a tool there, expertise, or a helping hand and I want to thank them as well.

Here it is on the truck…

Is it just the angle of the picture, or does the bumper intrude into the wheelwell more than the stock bumper? It there cause for concern when the suspension cycles in terms of tire clearance?

Thanks guys - sure glad to have this one behind me!

Simon - the bumber takes a little different line then the stock bumper fascia but it does not interfere with the tire at the top of suspension travel. I know what you mean though - yesterday when I got it on I took it out to a parking lot so that I can have a look at it further away and that is the first thing I thought as well.

Good stuff. It looks fantastic on the truck, that was my only concern. Great work!

I agree, it looks much better on the truck than I was expecting to be honest. Well done.

So... when are you starting a rear bumper to match?
