Frozen Doors
Is there anything I can do to reduce the likelyhood of the doors getting frozen shut? With this recent onslaught of cold I'm having to yank on the doors so hard to get in that I'm afraid of breaking something.
I've never had a vehicle with this issue so bad before. It's all doors, not just one, and happens when sitting overnight. It's fine once the seal has been broken. I remember it happening last winter also, but I had forgotten about it over the summer.
Is there anything I can treat the weather stripping with to help?

Re: Frozen Doors
Spray some WD-40 on it. Always did that and never had any issues...
To lift, or not to lift? What a stupid question...

Re: Frozen Doors
I've heard using vaseline on the seals should help.

Re: Frozen Doors
Silicone spray on the seals once a year is what I do and I never have to rip my door handles off lol

Re: Frozen Doors
K so I'm going to hit them with some vaseline, WD40, silicone spray and PAM. Maybe I'll do one on each door and see which one works the best lol.
I don't know why I didn't think on the silicone spray. I used to do that on my Suby (frameless windows) to keep the seals in good shape. I think I might even have some in a can on a shelf somewhere still. I'll give it a shot this weekend

Re: Frozen Doors
I was in the drive-thru at my local McDonalds the other day attempting to pick up breakfast. When I pulled up to the speaker to place my order, the driver-side window on the Maxima was frozen closed. I hit the button, and the window wouldn't budge...
I hear the usual "Welcome to Ronnie's House of Horrible-For-You Foods, what kind of lechery would you like to consume today?" come across the speaker, and I panicked. "Oh SH*T! What do I do!" I try the window again, still stuck... Dammit! Quick thinking, I kick open the door and yell my order at the speaker, feeling like a complete moron.
Once my debaucherous food order had been confirmed, I rolled forward, got out of the car, and was able to unstick the window by pressing down on the glass from both sides. After that, I calmy proceeded to the first window to make payment for my sins, I mean breakfast.
Soo all that to say that I will be lubricating my window seals with some silicone spray in the near future...
The last thing I need to have happen is to burn out a window motor trying to lower a frozen window...
And, to add to the pile, the doors on the Xterra freeze shut all the time. Perhaps I will hit the seals with the silicone as well.

Re: Frozen Doors
Ya careful with the windows. I once burned out a window motor when the window was frozen, when I was 16 and didn't really know what I was doing... That was my first car, and from that point forward that window got operated exatcly as you described lol. I called it the outside clap-grab.

Re: Frozen Doors
I wouldn't use vaseline - it makes sense that it'd work as it repells water, but it also becomes SUPER thick in the wintertime and becomes almost gluelike.Nd4SpdSe wrote:I've heard using vaseline on the seals should help.
You need something "thin" like a silicone lube or WD40.
There's a Simpson's quote for that.

Re: Frozen Doors
When I remember, I leave the window down a crack - not enough that it is open, but it isn't all the way up. Then if frozen I can first raise the window 1/8" to break the frost line at the bottom seal. The trick is remembering to do that. Silicone is likely a better idea.

Re: Frozen Doors
I always used Silicone Spray. Just the Crappy Tire, made in China by 3 year old children, steeped in a combination of Melamine and Formaldehyde, slippery death in a can. Shot around the door seal, the door handle, and a quick shot around the window glass. I also like to give a good shot of Fluid Film to the latch mechanism... I have yet to have an issue...

Re: Frozen Doors
My doors freeze every year-all winter long. i tried silicone-didnt realy work. locks freeze all the time- even with oil, wd-40, ect. i think its just the way water gets down the window. my secondary door seals at the bottom are stretched- they stick out the bottom of the door. mabey i will try again. the only thing is watch the paint- silicone makes it realy hard to repaint. never tried it in the windows.
