Engine Cover

Post by Maclean »

Does anyone know why my 2012 Xterra Pro-4X does not have an engine cover? The mounting hardware for it protrudes from the top of the block and the Frontier V6 has a cover. My attention was drawn to this lack of engine cover when installing the K&N cold air intake. The instructions include pictures of how to remove the engine cover before starting the instal. A visit to the local Nissan dealer was not helpful. They had no idea why there was no cover on the Xterra engine. They went and looked at a new one on their lot to check; no cover. The Frontier in the showroom has one though. Anyone know why and more importantly, does it matter?

I have a 2010 and I also don't have an engine cover...I believe that some (if not all) Xterras from 2010 to present don't have an engine cover and only a plastic tab on the intake tube that has a Nissan emblem on it.

And welcome to the club :D

The cover is a useless piece of plastic that collects dirt and debris underneath it. It may muffle some of the intake and valve noise but I doubt it. If you had one it would be left in the garage after your first time on the trails, or working on the motor.
