Takata airbag recall

As Honda has reported their 5th death from this airbag recall, I urge everyone that has an affected vehicle to

1) check if your vehicle is affected
2) get it fixed right away.

Industry reports that across all the automakers, who include Nissan/Infiniti, Honda, General Motors, Toyota/Lexus, and more that only 1 in 10 consumers have had the airbag recall completed in their vehicle.

The repair takes about 2 hours to do.

Takata is a global company that supplied airbag parts to MANY manufacturers. There is a defect in a common part that they used in a lot of different airbags.

I think part of the issue is that people think that if they don't have an airbag warning light, that it's not a big deal. This is FALSE, the issue could be right there 6 inches away from your chest.

The issue is that in the case of a crash (that can happen to anyone unexpectedly) that the airbag will inflate, but due to the defect that allowed the propellant to become disengaged from the rest of the unit will explode, which will be like a roadside bomb going off under your foot. Pieces of the casing and steering wheel will be propelled into your chest and in most cases will result in death.

Nissan to date has had zero issues as far as deaths from this recall. Lets make sure that it stays this way, because as of now, it is completely preventable, the only reason the person that owned the Honda died was because they didn't take the time to take the car to the dealer to have it fixed. This has been in the news for long enough now that even if you moved, and the manufacturer doesn't have your current contact information you should have called by now to see if you are affected.
(I don't mean for this to sound callous, as it is sad that someone has died, but I'm trying to make a point here)

If anyone wants their vin checked, simply call their local dealer, or post it here or PM me, and I will personally check every one of them.

For the record, these are the Nissan models affected:

2002 – 2004 Sentra (B15)
2002 – 2003 Pathfinder (R50)
2001 – 2003 Maxima (A33)

2003 FX (S50)
2001 I30 (CA33)
2002 – 2003 I35 (CA33)
2002 – 2003 QX4 (JR50)

But there are many more non-Nissan models too. If you have an off-make vehicle, make sure you call your local dealer for that vehicle to check it.

Booked for December 3rd with a loaner car to get back and forth to work. Parts are available, repair takes 3 hours but they asked for the day. Disappointed with the wait time for service but the next dealer is Belleville and that's difficult on a work day.

Thanks for the update.

My X is a US model. Should I check with Nissan US for this? I did not see anything on NHTSA site.

NHTSA is not reporting anything for my 05 and 11 Legacies (whew)

Thanks for posting.

Ironically the airbag light started flashing in the Titan the day that Takata acknowledge that more vehicles are effected.
