I just about of rear hatch door struts because the door kept falling on my head. Anyone know how to install these? Not apparent from looking at it how to get the old ones off? Mine's a 2010

Thanks

Stan

There should be retaining clips at each end. Just pop off then the arm comes off. When installing new struts try to install them so that when the door is closed the cylinder is on the bottom. With the OEM install on my 07 the cylinders were at the top when the door was closed. I heard that this causes them to eventually leak.

Just pop off the clip, careful - it is spring steel and will go flying. You shouldn't have to remove it 100%, just up a bit enough to get it off. The clip is U shaped and slides over a ball end.

I don't see why this would make a difference, the cylinder has the same pressure in it in either orientation. If anything I would put the cylinder at the top to prevent salt/crap from sitting on the rod seal. JMO

I am open to hearing the theory behind that if anyone knows it?
