Re: New to me Xterra
A/C compressor are you sure it is the compressor main bearings and not just the clutch itself?

Re: New to me Xterra
not sure on that , just know the AC compressor squeals .
AC works perfectly , in fact it was last serviced in january of 2014 , where they replaced a hose due to a leak ,

Re: New to me Xterra
You have probably checked already but are the idlers in good shape? I know mine made a lot of squeaking before i changed it. See if you can wiggle them with the truck off.

Re: New to me Xterra
They are stiff and on , don't look particularily attractive , but they don't make noise. I will change them in due time . just trying to get all the things for safty i need done and emissions , right now the big issue is the two codes for EVAP , i have the service manual pages for both those codes and am slowly diagnosing it. once those are done then its downhill from there . , Sunday will be a big day for the X , brakes , ball joints , diagnose the evap more .

Re: New to me Xterra
So after a full day working , here is where i am at . ABS light is gone , For some reason previous owner took the fuse out under the hood and left it there in the panel..... not sure if there was an issue and he didn't want to fix it , but light off. Exhaust is fixed also . After some persuasion , the rotor for one side is off , but the lower ball joint is a whole nother story . Its is still in and not wanting to move, no space to get the big nut off , although i did manage to , however its still stuck in the lower control arm. Any thoughts on a easy way to get the lower ball joints off?

Re: New to me Xterra
It should just come out after you get the big nut off. A few wacks with a hammer took my friends off. Tightening that big nut down on the other hand. What a PITA. It's 1 7/8" incase you don't have the socket already.

Re: New to me Xterra
Can't fit a socket in there to get it off , got it off with a Air hammer and chisel bit , but now its still in the hole and doesn't want to come out.
Tomorrow i am going to tackle the EVAP issue and fuel filter , then back at the rotors and ball joints on tuesday .

Re: New to me Xterra
So after yesterday i am no closer to getting the ball joints out , i think i need to heat the lower control arm to expand to loosen the ball joint , so today not much can be done unless i have a puller or torch to use and since its canada day nothing is open .

Re: New to me Xterra
When we did them we separated the tie rod, removed the brake caliper and took the whole knuckle off. That way we were able to hammer the joint out after taking the big nut off. Then the CV can be tied out of the way.

Re: New to me Xterra
