Anyone up for ordering additional tie-down hooks?
I have just acquired a Nissan XTerra 2007. Some of the original equipment is gone, particularly several of the tie-down hooks that fit in the channels on the floor of the cargo area.
I haven't had much luck finding comparable hooks at Home Depot, Princess Auto or Action Truck and Van (in London) and the dealer wants a fairly ridiculous amount of money for these hooks.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a machine shop to make up some more, perhaps with stronger materials (metal hooks instead of plastic ones). I haven't had that priced out yet and it may well be prohibitive but I thought I'd ask here to see if any of my fellow Nissan Truck owners wanted to go in such a purchase? I can well imagine that some of you have lost or broken some of your hooks or may simply want additional hooks. Perhaps if we can put together an order for a few dozen, it will be much cheaper (per unit) than just getting a half-dozen made up.
I'm not sure what other years and models of Nissan Trucks use these exact hooks so I may only be talking to other owners of 2007 XTerras. On the other hand, the hooks may work in many models and model years. I'd be happy to include pictures of the hooks I have if someone could tell me how to add attachments to my post. (I'm not seeing an option for that.)

Re: Anyone up for ordering additional tie-down hooks?
Sorry for the delay in noticing your reply; I didn't see the notification that anyone had replied.
Anyway, I tried searching for your post on how you replaced those tiedown hooks but I came up empty. There were 126 pages of the "what did you do to your rig" which I narrowed down to 7 via the search but I didn't see you mention those hooks in any of them. The second search was for "my truck build" with the author of the post being you but that came up empty too.
If you can suggest a couple of key words that you used in that post, I may be able to find it....

Found the reason why you cannot find it. It is my rig build three but this is only accessible to premium members.
I found the pic on FB but cannot copy the link. Well I have not figured out how to copy ok is from a tablet. Remind me next weekend and I will post the pic.

Re: Anyone up for ordering additional tie-down hooks?
Nope. Not tomorrow yet but we are home. Truck unloaded but need to unpack, including the laptop with the pic. Awesome time on lake Simcoe (east side). Two adults and 2 kids pack a lot of stuff but the X took it all! New rear leads will help the load.

It's certainly an intriguing solution to the problem. I like that it is all metal (or at least seems all metal in the photo). I can't say I understand it all though.
First, what is the spring's role in the hook? The original hooks don't have anything like a spring attached to them and I can't think of any good reason for them to be there.
Re the part in the middle - between the spring and the "eye" - are those pieces bonded together in some way - glue, welding, etc. - or does the whole thing come apart into separate components: "eye", upper nut, upper washer, in-between-thing, lower washer, lower bracket, lower nut, spring?

Re: Anyone up for ordering additional tie-down hooks?
It is all metal.
The spring and the middle piece are bonded together and is the piece I do not remember what it is called.
There are two nuts and the eye bolt. It can come apart.
The spring adds force to the bar and let's you move the piece where you want. The nuts let you tighten the whole thing in the track.

Once the name of that piece comes to me or someone posts up what they are then it is easy enough to make.

Re: Anyone up for ordering additional tie-down hooks?
Yes. Chris reminded me that they are instruct (spring nuts). Instead of the bolt I used an eye bolt and added a fender washer plus 2 nuts to tighten it down. Hand tight is good but a wrench can be used as well.
