Re: Knock Sensor
Almost every Xterra will have this code. Mine is on aswell, the SES light stays off though. Nothing to worry about.

Re: Knock Sensor
I ran mine for more than a year with that code on and nothing ever happened. The dealer quoted me over 700$ to fix it, so it stayed like that.
The only problem I've seen with this is if you're lucky enough to have the SC version of the X: your fuel consumption will go up quite a bit...

To lift, or not to lift? What a stupid question...

Re: Knock Sensor
I just changd mine last week in my driveway. Some say it doesnt make a difference with that code but to me there is a difference. I feel a better take-off then before. Also with the faulty knock sensor I heard a pinging on take-off. Everything now is all good. I would change it, but thats just me. I also relocated it just in case it has a brain fart again.

Re: Knock Sensor
This in itself is worth changing it the first time. In the future, my guess is a good cleaning of the contacts would probably clear the codes, and that's a lot easier to do where John's placed his.Big Bird wrote: I also relocated it just in case it has a brain fart again.

Re: Knock Sensor
I also get this code all the time but my mileage always sucks.
I would love to replace and relocate it but I currently don't possess that skill in my wheehouse.
Perhaps someday at a mod day.

Re: Knock Sensor
We should pick a date this fall when John's free and have a mod day where he can teach all the WD22 Xterra owners how to do this, if he's willing, that is.

Re: Knock Sensor
This Knock sensor may also cause a failure at E-Test time. Mine did & it cost me.

Re: Knock Sensor
That is an excellent idea. What John did was the correct way to fix the thing - move it.Simon wrote:We should pick a date this fall when John's free and have a mod day where he can teach all the WD22 Xterra owners how to do this, if he's willing, that is.
I'd be in on a little mod day to fix the stupid sensor.

Re: Knock Sensor
Those knock sensors go for $250.00. Ouch indeed. Its quite a bit of work to do. When you want to do it you will also need the intake gaskets. Three of them.

Re: Knock Sensor
I would definitely be interested in a mod/repair day to do this work. I would need to know the part numbers for what I would need to order in advance.

Re: Knock Sensor
I would host this Mod day as I need to do this as well. I am tired of the spark knock, and worry the motor won't retard enough and cause detonation.
Part numbers and such would help. Then we could all get together and do this mod with a great write up and be done with it.
Of course John should be compensated for his knowledge that day no?

Re: Knock Sensor
I have no problem with that at all. I think that is very fair and would be more than willing to do this. I am tired of always getting this code on my scan gauge and would like to resolve it as well.Bender wrote:... Of course John should be compensated for his knowledge that day no?
